    Grizzly Creek to South Canyon

Today Amanda and I went with a friend from work to raft the Colorado River from Grizzly Creek to South Canyon near Glenwood Springs.

We both had a great time and managed to get thoroughly soaked :) The Colorado was flowing pretty fast, so this section of river only took us a few hours to travel, even with a stop for lunch at Two Rivers Park in Glenwood Springs.

Here's some photos from our day on the river.

i used to do that trip from shoshone to rifle commercially back in the mid 70's. looks like you had a great day.
But if I agreed with you, we would both be wrong.

Great photos! I've driven I-70 to Utah so many times and wondered about floating parts of the Colorado there in my sea kayak, or now, my solo canoe... With all the rain, Colorado is beautifully green and even Boulder Creek is a kayakers fun park, still...

Looks pretty tame... how white watery does it get in that section? How far is it from Grand Junction?

I need to start getting out of Utah eventually and explore up river from Westwater....

only one real rapid. south canyon rapid is a easy class 3. the dinosaur hole, which a little below new castle, can be good in high water. it's about 90 miles east of grand jct. on i-70 to glenwood spgs. and grizzly creek is another 7 mi.or so further east.

the good run is from shoshone power plant to grizzly creek. only a few miles long but it's class 3 to 4. there's some real tricky maneuvering to be done in that stretch.
But if I agreed with you, we would both be wrong.

Cool, just watched some vids on youtube from shoshone rapids, looks fun! I guess all those runs are day runs right?

I looked up the distance, it's 6.5 hours away from me, quite a drive for a day run :(
