    New Rope Question

    I have a new 60m 9mm Imlay Canyon rope.

I was wondering if there is a way to soften it up before heading out to the canyons.

It helps to go do a few rappels on it.

If nothing else, tying it to a telephone pole, and "rappelling" down the street often does it. Put the ATC or Pirana on the lowest friction setting, and pull it down the length of the rope a couple of times.

I have a couple of miles of Tom's rope. When it first arrives seems extremely stiff. After using for awhile softens up. Some people feel it is always to stiff. But the wear of his ropes are unbelievable. I started this sport with canyon (the cheaper one) ropes and was wearing them out core shots etc. Was very disappointed.
