Wiper Fishing out to Willard; a fantastic evening

Went fishing on my dads boat last Wednesday may 27 for the evening out Willard Bay. The Wiper Bass were hitting very well, and very hard. I've come to the conclusion having caught almost every type of fish in the state of Utah, save Tiger Muskie, and Pike, that the Wiper Bass of Willard bay are pound for pound the hardest fighting fish in the State. These were some real hogs. Trolling seams to be the trick for a day of success for these bad boys.

Here I am sporting a couple of fine hogs:

My nephew Casey with a nice fish:

Chunk a friendly and very appreciative passenger:

These new fishing boats are quite stable for standing as shown by Casey:

A beautiful way to end a great day:

Chrome Rapalas seemed to work the best. We did catch one off a bottom bouncer and worm as well.

Seems like I have always used bottom bouncers out there. You did well!

Nice job! Wipers pull like trains and are a lot of fun to catch. Good on ya.

Oh man I love fishing for Willard wipers. We use fly rods to catch these with and man what a riot. Not very often do I get taken out all the way to the backing but with the wipers it is a common occurance. I totally agree on being one of the hardest fighting local fish.

    They are pretty tasty too!

We just ate these for dinner last night. What a delicious fish. Move over tuna, I've found a new chicken of the sea or lake anyways. They are a little testy to filet. They have a red vein and film that must be cut off to really reach true edible satisfaction. But they are packed with plenty of meat! Just bread with a little flour and add some lemon pepper and you've got a delectable unforgetable meal on your hands!
