    eureka

    Hello everyone,
I've been lurking for a while but finally registered today. I'm so glad to see canyoneering and paddling and hiking all represented in the same place. Seems like there is a lack of places online you can find all three mentioned in the same forum. So yay.

I'm new to the "outdoors" and have decided to attempt to keep up with my husband, who is an avid outdoorsman. I am not accustomed to dirt, muck, bugs, a certain fleeting personal cleanliness, packing light or a lack of blackberry network bars. I hope to learn the best way to pack light for backpacking trails/kayaking trips without my wine intake fluctuating.

I began this quest last summer at Lake Powell, kayaking across the Wahweap Bay in the 100* midday sun ... and then hiking the Zion Narrows from the bottom the following day. I am also an active photographer, so I've had to learn about drybags and stabbing people with trekking polls who won't get out of my shot.

I am a huge Trekkie as well. I'm sure it's not obvious or anything.

Anyway, so much left to discover.... I feel like I've been asleep!

Welcome! You're not the only outdoor/geek here. Trekkies are welcome just keep that Star Wars prejudice to yourself and we'll be ok.
