Alta skier found but dies at hospital

Missing skier found at Alta dies
    April 4th, 2009 @ 10:32pm
ALTA - A skier whose friends reported him missing at Alta Ski Resort died Saturday evening.

Lt. Don Hutson with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office says 51-year-old Thomas M. Kennedy, Jr. of Londonderry, N.H. died at Intermountain Medical Center.

He and some friends were skiing at Alta Saturday afternoon. The friends went down a hill around 3:30 p.m., but Kennedy didn't follow. They reported him missing around 5 p.m.

Saturday evening, members of the ski patrol found him face down in the snow in the wooded Westward Ho area of Alta. They are unsure if he hit a tree.

Meantime, Utah County Search and Rescue crews are looking for a group of missing snowmobilers near Strawberry Reservoir. No other details were immediately available.

That is too bad. My friend is part of search and rescue and he got called out yesterday but I figured it was for someone in the backcountry.
