    Angels Landing

My son hiked angels landing today with his buddies. He said out at the very end there are bolts with rope grooves going over the edge. Anybody know what these are about? Is this the worlds longest rappel or what? Kasey says he ready but who is going to haul up the rope?

probably the top out for one of the several routes that climb angels landing direct from the river on the north side (i think). prodigal son IV 5.9 C2, and the lowe route V 5.10 C3+ (goes free @ 5.13), along with about 5 or 6 others go up there.

But if I agreed with you, we would both be wrong.

I figured that is what they are for. But he said they were about 3 or 4 ft from the edge. If you were climbing you would of been able to walk up to them.

Might be from hauling a pack or haul bag.

There's been some SAR stuff from the summit, too. I'm sure Bo can elaborate. Kid a few years back that fell onto a ledge below the summit and died. I seem to recall they hauled his body back up to the top.

Nice post of Eric and Bryan's NF poster.

I doubt its Prodigal. Prodigal tops out through a couple of loose, nasty chimneys and finishes with a belay around a stout pine tree. There weren't any rope grooves near this point when i was last there.
It is fun to top out on these Angel routes to the throng of waiting tourists.
    beefcake. BEEFCAKE!

He said there were several rope grooves and they were pretty deep.

I'll bet popping up over side gets peoples attention.
