    Anti Virus Software Question

I've had Norton as my main anti-virus. I don't want to turn it off yet but I want to run the trial version of Zone Alarm. I can't load it, it keeps getting blocked. Will Norton block a competitors software???

It sure will. So will most big "money" anti virus software. They HATE competition.

And there really is no way to fully turn it off unless you remove it.

Your other option is running a virtual machine. I use vmware and I have a virtual machine in place just for testing anti-virus software (plus anything I download, I download and test on my virtual machine before I bring it on my network).

I've seen a few instances of multiple AV software running on a system. The results were bad. Blue Screens, failure to load windows, etc. It's no bueno.

Plus when it does work, it makes the computer dog slow.

Try AVG, it's free to. Get rid of Norton ASAP in my not so humble opinion. I actually deal with more Norton related problems than I do actual virus problems now-a-days.
Your safety is not my responsibility.

That fell into the "etc." category.

Sometimes just removing Norton can be a pain. On computers that I've repaired, I've had to search for special tools created to remove certain versions of Norton.

Norton can be considered a virus by some.

There are removal tools for each version of Norton. You just need to find the removal application for your Norton product and it is a cinch. You basically can forget about uninstalling Norton using "Add or Remove Programs".

Where can I get this information?
I was getting full page popups, still do.
But now I get sound without a popup page.
I know I have some sort of virus but I can't get to it.

Sounds like you have some sort of spy or malware ...

Download and install all of these free programs

    MalwareBytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/
    Adaware http://www.lavasoft.com/
    Spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

install and update then boot into safe mode (for better results) scan, and remove.

    Then run a Norton Scan.

    Thanks Summit
In the past I couldn't run Malewarebytes because it froze up. I'm guessing a Norton conflict. I did a add/remove of Norton and am trying Malewarebytes again.

My wife works in the tech field, has for years, thats what she said about it.AVG isnt bad, nor is avast, both free. between those and malware bytes, and my wife :D our stuff stays pretty well protected, no major problems in the last 5 years since she started taking care of my computer.
OH, and we use avast since she said we would be, but I never had any real issues with avg and used it for a long time before she took over our network at home. She hates, Mcaafee adn norton both.
