    Making Money Online

Does anyone know of any LEGIT money making opportunities online? Preferrably part-time, data entry type stuff? There are literally thousands of websites out there like this that boast that they're legit, but I don't trust any of them without knowing someone who's done it before and has actually made good on their claims.

PM me or reply here, thanks.
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

I can tell you what NOT to get into! As a friend once said "Go to school on me". I tried several things back in the mid to late 90s when I first sold my business and moved out here to SLC from New Orleans. I wanted to stay independent and work on my own time and schedule, but everything I looked into wanted money up front and "then we'll talk". I warned my brother in law about something he thought was truly legit (selling merchandise from your own website) and he invested more than $35K. The company promised that within 12 weeks he would make his investment back and they would be with him every step of the way. Well, he followed all their instructions and not one sale came from his website. When he went back to them with his concerns, he was told that for another $10K they could provide more help. He basically let them know what they could do with their "help".

Sorry to be so negative, but when it comes to online work/businesses, etc, I've never found anything that was truly legit and profitable. Basically, just be careful - especially if you're asked for money up front.

Can I interest you in the latest MLM???

Never regret anything that made you smile!

There is a lot of money to be made on the interwebz.... the problem is you have to have something of value to sale..... as nelsonccc noted... porn works... Right now I keep hearing about small fortunes being made with iphone applications. The other item I have noted is it helps if you find something unique or difficult to duplicate... otherwise a hundred others will copycat the minute they see it.

My thought has always been.... you just need to find something really cool and sale it for $1 to one million people and your in.... kinda what the iphone guys are doing....

I'm thinking "Bait and Switch".... and for an extra grand I'm thinking about going old school and doing it in the backseat of a Camero. That will be the hook.

I agree with that statement, but you do have to be the first. Others will come in and copy, but hopefully by the time your business has been mass duplicated, you've made a tidy sum of money. Niche or group marketing can be very profitable as well.

Unfortunately, by the time you've reached your late 40s, that "Gumby-like" flexibility just isn't there anymore.....

Back in the day, I made about 5,000 in two months selling on ebay. Basically I would buy stuff at deep discounts or sales and then sell it on ebay. One time I bought 20 Dell laptops on an online one day sale, I then posted them on ebay and averaged 50 to 150 bucks off each one. That kind of stuff around Christmas time makes a killing cause everyone has the mindset that you can get it off ebay cheaper. Not so. I did the same thing with Apple Ipods last Christmas as well as Kitchen aid stand mixers. I sold most of the mixers on KSL. The key is to do your homework and know what a real bargain is and jump on it. Risky? Sure, but you don't get anywhere in life without risk.

Agree. I stumbled onto a crazy aid climbing sale. PIcked up about $1200 of stuff. Sold all of it on Ebay for about $2600. Every once in awhile I'll get the ebay bug and go through and gather up the old gaming consoles, camping gear, etc and sell it. I'm always amazed at the sudden influx of cash it'll generate.

Yeah... eBay stuff can bring big coin.

I had a friend who would buy Rolex Watches at Overstock.com whenever they had a descent deal. Than he would sell them for more on eBay. The best part was he had no risk as Overstock had a 30 day return policy. He would buy the watch, list it on eBay and if he couldn't move it within 30 days for more he would return it to Overstock. I never asked the details of how, but he told me Overstock finally put a stop to his little enterprise.

Seems to me the real money to be made from the web is to get a good "idea" and sell it.

There are 3 traditional ways to make money online.

Advertising Model - First you have to own webspace that gets loads of traffic and I mean LOADS of traffic. Bogley? Nope, not enough.

Ecommerce - This has already been mentioned in this thread. Of course you have to be able to find product that you can profit from. Then you need traffic. Then you have to execute. Ebay helps because they already have the traffic and the tools to help you execute, but then you pay the piper. Throwing up a website wont do jack for you, its not quite like opening up a store on a busy corner of town.

An Idea - (Ice mentioned this too) A product or service that everybody starts using immediately. I really believe this area is still WIDE open. So many of the biggest Internet giants were started by college students and then sold for millions or billions. Google, YouTube, Facebook, MySpace, the list goes on and on. With so many people doing more and more and more online. There are still loads of web products that will strike a nerve and someone will bankroll major cash. Who is going to come after Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube, etc, etc, etc?

Wait there are 4 ways! PORN.
