Hanging Lake, Glenwood Springs Winter 09
Some friends and myself decided to go hike Hanging Lake today which is a very popular local hike. Luckily for us, going in the winter leaves the trail wide open with no one on it and this is just what we needed. The trail is normally very rocky, which makes alot of rock hopping in the summer but after several inches of snowfall, it makes this trail very easy on the knees because the rocks are totally covered. The hardest part of this hike is just the steepness of it. It's not long, it's just straight up. We ended up not needing our snowshoes but instead used our Stablicers and with poles, it was perfect. Once up there, we had a quick snack and scouted around to the waterfall which was completely frozen into a wall of blue ice. Was absolutely gorgeous! After spending quite some time up at the top exploring, we headed down the hill fairly quick in search of a late breakfast at the local diner and a few Mimosas to unwind. Too bad for us the diner ran out of champagne! HEHE!!! Anyhow, here are a few photos. Tomorrow I venture out to do Williams peak which is a toughie.......
