    Canyon Year 2008

    The annual pissing contest.

My best year ever. First serious year for me. More canyons in 2008 than all previous years combined. I know most of you beat this but I'm exited. Hope to beat it next year.

    Subway
    Mystery
    Pine Creek
    Keyhole
    Water Canyon
    Spry
    Yankee Doodle
    Shelf
    Echo
    Red Cave upper
    Red Cave lower
    Dick's (aka Pigeon Poop)

    I have a short list

    Pinecreek

    The man thong is wrong.

My list is very short this year; in fact getting shorter every year since I've gotten back into bouldering. A few repeats (Death Hollow for the 6th time, Alcatraz for the fourth) but I had fun with some new ones:

    Paradisio
    Limbo
    Purgatory
    Potty Mouth
    Sinusitus/Snot Nose
    Alcatraz
    Lost Park
    Death Hollow ( )

48 canyons in three states. It was a pretty good year; even better when I throw in climbing days, scouting days and river trips!

This year sucked...worst year ever. Only four canyons (shoulda been at least double that, but luck worked against me).

    1. Arscenic
    2. Spry
    3. Gravel
    4. Neon
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

This year wasn't great for me either. I only got nine of them. All my tech canyons can be found below if you sort through the mess:

Not a big number, but a good year for me. Some real bright spots. What a great year.
Just as excited about 2009! Freeze Fest is a great way to start a year!

I have some ideas but I think it's time to write down my goals for the New Year...

    Keyhole x3
    Subway x2
    Pine Creek x2
    Echo
    Orderville

Successfully avoided Mystery (aka miserable) Canyon four times in 2008!

My biggest accomplishment was to take my kids through Pine Creek. Also, we introduced five people to canyoneering in 2008.

I can't wait to see what 2009 has to offer.

I had been obsessed with canyons the last couple years, this year I kept my big canyoneering trips to spring and fall with only a few shortee's in the summer and winter. Played in the mountains more this year and will probably do the same in years to come (Monsoon season canyoneering is no beuno). Planning on getting more into mountaineering and climbing this summer but I'm sure I'll still get plenty of canyons in. I still got in quite a few in 2008 so I can't say I laid off too much. My list:

    Styx
    Darwin
    Limbo
    Purgatory
    Paradiso (twice)
    Inferno (twice)
    Devils Thumb
The first section of Good Day Jim followed by bailing and hiking the lower portion of Seven Mile.
    Neon
    Pandora's Box
    Das Boot/Subway
    Keyhole
    Pine Creek
    Psycho Damage
    Wordsmith
    Pothoez
    Inquisition
    X-Communication
    Blastphemey
    Music Temple
    Happy Dog
    Baboon Smiles
    Lost Park
    Low Spur
    Smallcatraz
    East Water
    Chambers
    Lil Bull
    East Bluejohn
    Main Bluejohn
    Headless Hen
    Raven
    East Scorpion
    Clear Creek
    Big Tony
    Lower PINTAC
    Most of Frosted Flakes
    Angel
    West Blarney
    Shenanigans
    Morocco

Got in quite a few new ones as well as some old favorites. Ghosted my first canyon (well Tom ghosted it, I mostly just watched) I've STILL yet to do a canyon in the Swell. I guess that should be a goal for spring of 2009!

I think we should. Squeeze, Cable, Quandry, Zero G, haven't done any of them. Pathetic isn't it?

So much fun reading these... Just a couple of canyons for me in '08, but that will change in '09 - starting in April...
