Stay where you're at. The IT field (unless you're highly specialized) is a commodity now. It's a parity job and isn't as "cool" as it used to be. (IMHO)

Yeah, I was serious. Stupid thing. I plugged in a used blackberry (KSL) and ever since my USB ports will work with the Blackberry, my mouse and printer but will not recognize any external drive (iPod, flash drive, multipule external HDs).
I have read some about enumeration, but it's dead boring and hard to get through.
I did use a USB trace software to find out that it is an enumeration problem. I will check out the references listed here after work when I have a bit more time...
I may just format and re-install the OS, would that fix the problem?
Thanks.

A quicker fix would be to access the Device Control Panel, search for any unknown devices that you're trying to use, delete them and reboot. Before plugging them in, install any necessary driver(s) first, then connect USB.

11-04-2008, 01:08 PM #25We support all county offices, libraries, heath department, senior citizen centers, and the jail. I do mostly desktop support, wiring jobs- voice/data, rolling out the computer upgrades, making sure no one cuts into our fiber and today making sure no one else plugs in space heaters at polling locations. Occasionally I get to play with some servers but they dont let us touch the routers. I graduated and moved from Montana over a year ago and I think I got pretty lucky to find this job! If I can stay motivated, I hope to hammer out a cert or two this winter between skiing and snowshoeing. What do you do for Davis County?

Had you installed any Blackberry software on your computer prior to plugging it in? If so, what kind and version?
Yup, it's a snoozer. Low level traces like it are always about as interesting as watching grass grow - or looking in the Political Arena!

I do IT Consulting. Basically companies which are too small to have an IT staff on the payroll, outsource it to my company. I'm in Texas on business right now, and I can't find a Bogley equivalent for Texas, so I'm just working extra long to pass the hours :).

How long ago did you interview for the position? Mine was last July. Same questions and people probably.

I spent a year as a Sr. Security Engineer (consultant) in 2004-2005 at the Bancorp. (West Valley campus) I did the Patriot system implementation and the laptop encryption project. Performed quite a few IT audits as well.
