    Amazing pictures. And a story;
While exploring the ancient ruins of Ur in southern Iraq I looked into a notch where a brick was missing and found a birds nest, with the body of the a dead bird and a giant spider still in the nest. The birds chest was all torn out like an Alien had burst out through it. It was just above eye level and I had leaned in and stepped up on my toes to look in so I was too close for comfort. I'm pretty sure I screamed like a little school girl and stumbled away quickly.
I wanted to shoot the spider but the Army always wants to know what happened to the bullets you were issued.

Ur ruins pic near where my story took place.

Geez, I'd be afraid to get close enough to step on it. If you could catch it, and try to flush it, the darn thing would plug the john.

Dear Lord, thank you for not having those spiders you created (and only you know why you created them in the first place) decide to choose my surroundings as a place to live. I'm grateful for that. They freak me out bad.

On another note, can you explain Richard Simmons to me? Thanks.

    Amen

Much better than those damn spiders! Doesn't get much better than Letterman and Simmons on the same stage!

Thanks JP. Now I can't say that I'm 100% straight anymore. After having watched that, I'm now 1% gay. And so is anyone else who watched that same video.

Oh, and please convince me that there is no connection between our beloved Fro Bro and Richard Simmons. They're sporting the same do.

Oooof, I feel sorry for ya

That's okay Don, nothing wrong with a little humor after thinking how it would feel walking into that spider's web on some trail

I'm glad they're blocking picture hosting sites and youtube at my work, at least I don't have to watch Richard Simmons.

As far as spiders, I like them, they kill bugs, flies and other buzzing crap. In some cultures spiders and spider webs near homes mean good luck. Although a big spider like that catching an innocent bird is not cool.

That's insanity. Am I the only one wondering if that's even real? I see the pictures and read the story. It sure looks legit but my mind is having an awful hard time accepting that a freakin spider could get so big. Maybe it's just the denial phase I'm entering into.

Everything grows big and just about everything outside is deadly in Australia.

We saw some really big spiders in Australia, perhaps the same as the ones in the article. Whatever kind they were, they were big.

Everything grows big and just about everything outside is deadly in Australia.
While we were camping in the forest in Australia, I went to go filter some water out of the creek not long after it got dark. I bent down to filter the water and something started growling at me. It freaked me out and I got out of there quick. Unfortunately we went to bed thirsty but since I didn't know what it was growling at me I didn't want to go back until daylight.

It sure looks legit but my mind is having an awful hard time accepting that a freakin spider could get so big.
I've seen spiders at least that big, maybe bigger several times. Some places of note are in the Terai around the Nepal/India border, in SE Venezuela and in the Tortegero area of Costa Rica just south of the Nicaragua border. In the Toregero and Terai regions, the spiders are actually quite pretty in a sort of way instead of hairy and tarantula-like. The ones in Tortegero are bright yellow and green with white stipes or yellow dots.

It is no wonder the spiders were big in some places. In SE Venezuela we were eating in an open air restaraunt (most non-home buildings don't have walls because of the heat) and right at sunset all these birds came in the restaraunt and started flying around. They were making really weird noises and flew in a really strange way. After a minute or two one landed on the table. They were actually beetles. I had just mistaken them for birds because they were as big as my hand. I guess the spiders have to be big if the bugs are. Of course some of the spiders there really do eat birds as well as the video above points out.

Here is one of the bird eating spiders on a mount so you can see how big they are.

This thread has been most troubling to me. I suddenly realized that I have been more creeped out by the spiders than Richard Simmons. That scared me. But then I realized that I could just punch Richard Simmons and he would go away crying. Now I am not so troubled any more, just creeped out. (Deep thoughts by Scott Card)
