John Howard makes fun of the national anthem

Unfortunately you gotta click on the link to watch it.

Are they making too big of a deal of this? Maybe Josh Howard should play basketball in some other country. I do agree with the second Winston-Salem resident's comments though, heh.

Maybe there's a little overreation, but Howard just stikes me as yet another mouty belligernt sports figure. Nothing new.

Different take on the Anthem: I say this is a musician and sometimes-songwriter, so take it for what it is -- the National Anthem is not a very well-written song. It's also near impossible for most folks to sing well (or even remember) and the lyrics are not much.

So, what would YOU like to see as the Anthem? Keep the one we have or go for something better? I think a song people can relate to and belt would hold greater meaning.

    I'll start with two suggestions:
This Land is Your Land (my fave)
    America the Beautiful
"The eagle never lost so much time as when he consented to learn of the crow."

I think the Star Spangled Banner is great, and I do feel like he does a great disservice to all black people by making these comments.

If I were to say I don't celebrate this #$@%, I'm mormon. It would make Mormons look bad (worse? :) ). So although I had never heard of him before now, I do think less of him.

As far as changing the national anthem, I would be all in favor of changing America the Beautiful. That is a great hymn.

    "O beautiful, for heroes proved
    In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved
    And mercy more than life!"

Yeah, and you can get some great harmonies going on that one.

If he did what you said he did, we should go to war with Australia.

I'm a huge sports fan, and yes Hockey Players are full of themselves too. Don't kid yourself.

I find hockey players the most civilized sportsmen out here, also because many of them come form Europe and Canada. You don't see them making fan of the national anthem, ours or any other. Howard is a product of a f-ked up environment where it's cool to make fun of the MAN, but it's not right, plus, in his case, God bless the USA, he's got it made, he should be thanking this country for the opportunity he received.

Problem is as soon as he makes a basket the fans will forget it ever happened. No one has the balls to say it's just a freakin game and it won't kill me to make a stand and say I'm not coming to watch that asshole play. I don't know about Hockey players but hockey fans in Canada can be assholes too.

I think for the most part they are less crappy than the others, but I wouldn't rank their civility. They're just the lesser of many evils in sports, and if hockey were as popular across the entire USA as basketball, football, etc...that would change.

But still...it's like saying, would you like to eat the small dog poo or the big one. I'd take the small one if I had no choice but to pick one, but it's still poop!
