I am surprised at the number of denials, I would think if a person is not eligable to purchase a gun they would know, or maybe it's the authorities and their entrapment operations

I'm not surprised at the number of denials. The world is full of stupid people.
Everyone believes they're entitled to something, even if they have a felony conviction. You know, it's "in the Constitution" and all..

Congrats on taking the steps in order to protect yourself
Now, I highly recommend you go get some training. It is a life changing experience. There are some good facilities in Utah and some excellent ones out of state.
So what will you be carrying?Let's Roll

I have taken the course and it is WELL worth your time.Never pistol whip someone with your gun...that could mar the finish.

Why not just make it easy and get a Concealed Carry Permit than you CAN carry a loaded gun at all times (with a few expecptions).

I've had mine for several months now and still carry on a daily basis. My only recommendation, which I know you didn't ask for but I'll give it anyway, is to buy the cheapest holster you can find. Until you find something that works for you, don't go buy the $150 kydex holster. Get the cheepo and make sure it works for ya. Then buy the nice one.
