If you're heading to the ACA Rondy, leave your Imlay ropes at home.....the king has spoken:

While I cant speak directly to those ropes you have linked. I can tell you that most everyone here uses the 9mm Imlay Canyon Rope. It is firmly woven for longest life, and uses 100% polyester to minimize water absorbtion. A nice handling, long-lasting static rope that works great for canyoneering.

Speak for yourself, not for the group. You are way off suggesting that most everyone here uses Imlay rope. Simply isn't true. I have never been a fan, even when I was getting them free. Too stiff to be called "nice handling". I'll go even farther and tell you that if a partner brings an Imlay rope with them, they'll leave it in the car because I will not use it.

BlueWater makes much better ropes.

If the king has spoken, it is high time the village idiot speaks. Cost vs. benefit leads me to the Imlay Ropes every time. And I own both kinds. My hunch is that there is more to this post than meets the eye, and I ain't talkin' about rope quality. Just a hunch.......

Methinks you might be on to something! He becomes very transparent with this latest post:

One of the things I like about Imlay 8 mm rope is that it tends to loosen up and get softer with age, though it's about as stiff as PMI Max when new.

My experiences have been the exact opposite. Too stiff when new. Gets even stiffer with use. As a result ... difficult to lock off, difficult to rig blocks, difficult to rig rescue systems, etc.

I was an Imlay dealer for a while, but didn't have enough confidence in the rope to sell it. Currently a dealer for BlueWater, Petzl, Black Diamond, New England, Metolius, Edelweiss and Edelrid. All make fine ropes, but BlueWater continues to be my favorite. BlueWater Canyon DS is the finest canyoneering rope I have ever owned.

I don't know about everyone else, but my Imlay rope has become softer with age, and I've never had a problem locking it off with my Pirana or Figure 8. One can easily install a clove hitch on a biner for a block, and all rescue systems I've used in practice have worked flawlessly.

Let's see.....the only ropes he carries in his shop are BW, and his favorite is $72 more than the same diameter/length-equivalent Imlay rope.

Ulterior motives? Nah!
