it was the 'ask a ____' feature- he was the iraq vet they interviewed this morning. don is hilarious... the radio versions of his stories are pretty good, but the unedited ones he'll tell you in person are the best...

They do a weekly feature on the Radio From Hell show called ask-a. Someone unique from the community comes on the show and is asked questions by the hosts and listeners can call in. They have done ask-a-policeman, ask-a-clown, ask-a-escort, ask-a-attorney general, ask-a-excommunicated mormon, you get the idea. This week was ask-a-veteran of the Iraq War and I was the guest in studio for about 45 minutes.
I kept it on the down low because I didn't want friends (Army buddies) calling in to mess with me. I was pretty nervous about the show and didn't need that kind of extra pressure.
I feel like it went well and I was able to get across my point of view without saying anything that would get me in trouble with the Army.
My favorite part was when they asked What are the odds you will have to go back? and I responded with I dont know; who are you voting for? hahaha. Good stuff.
In case you care and want to give it a listen the show will be available on their site as a free podcast (or through iTunes; search for Radio From Hell and todays date). Probably won't be up until later or tomorrow.
    Here is the RFH site.

I'm assuming those are your pics up under the ask-a
Who is the guy smoking and why is he not helping everyoen else roll teh humv.

Those are my pics. The dude smoking was the most senior guy on the scene; my boss at the time. And he was the guy who drove the truck up on it's side.

    More here.

Hey Don, listening to the podcast now, you did a great job man, you came off just like a true independent who was there to do his job. Hats off to you and your service man.

It's cool you got your hour of fame man, very cool to hear someone on the radio station that I drank beers with

I mostly tell the funny stories; I skinny dipped the Persian Gulf, they're more fun to tell.

Yeah, that was me. September 2003, Baghdad. I was driving the 2nd humvee in a convoy of about 12. A roadside bomb went off next to the lead vehicle. Those three guys, active duty armored cav, lived but they were badly injured. Something from the explosion hit my windshield and broke a bunch of little glass shards into my face. Considering what was going on around me at the time I was damned lucky. Nothing in my eyes, no scarring, I had a headache for a couple days. Drive on. Literally actually; I was driving down that same road later that same day.

Since I'm telling the story here are the pictures.

Me, a few minutes after the bomb. I look pissed.

    Me later, getting cleaned up.

    My windsheild.

The lead humvee; the one that really got hit. They're still treating one of the guys in the background of the first picture.

And the damage done to the underpass where the bomb was located. Effective because the concrete directed the bast toward the road and the vehicle.
