Little Further South On The Housy

Well, yesterday was supposed to be a day of photography. I headed a little further south on the Housy where it would be a little more picturesque. So, I went through the covered bride, pulled off to the side of the road, hopped out and opened the rear door. The debate now started Do I bring the fishing gear along with the camera gear, hmmmmmm. Decisions. I know I'm here to take pics, a little hike, hmmmm. This took some time. Well, I figured I would just grab the pole and one lure (You guessed it, the Mini-Whacker...Smallmouth killer in this river). I'll leave the fishing vest of goodies in the truck. I find it kind of sacrilegious to walk along or in a river without fishing it So, I grabbed the pole, the Sigma, the idiot camera and the tripod and headed down the rocky jaunt to the river. This proved to be a bad idea. My pictures suffered dearly, the fishing could have been better and I could have taken more pics of fish. I never even used the tripod, oh what a big mistake

The fishing was better than it has been up the river where I was before. The Smallies were bigger and more numerous. With the Sigma hanging off my body, the tripod wanting to go for a swim and the idiot camera in my pocket, I managed to get one shot of Smallie I caught. Damn things kicking and screaming coming out of the water, ended up with water on the lens So, taking pics of the Smallies are now going to have to take a back seat. If I left the Sigma behind and grabbed the vest of goodies, this would of been one heck of a time fishing for the little bit I was there for.

So, what I learned...it's one or the other Either to fish or pic...No more dual purpose unless I have a mule She's gonna love that one

This portion of the Housy is known as Bulls Bridge, known for the covered bridge that crosses the Housy. The river above the bridge is deeper and runs like a huge pool for over a mile. It comes to a waterfall that has been capped with a damn for yet another hydro plant. Due to new environmental laws, the power companies are no longer allowed to pool water. They cannot draw the river down and let it pool back up before the damn or in its canal system. The river must remain flowing at it's natural flow. That's sort of like an oxymoron due to the dam still being on top of the waterfall. They have the water flow through an open gate and water is still diverted into the canal. So, it's still not flowing at it's "natural" rate, so I say keep generating (pooling)

From the waterfall, the river continues to drop through a rocky ravine making several pools in steps, some fast moving and some slower and one pondish area. You can even pull Largemouths out of the pondish area.

The river has soooo many faces. It switches up quite often. That area has a lot of neat holes. In the last two pics, in that pondish area, after that island, it keeps dropping down through a ravine with some pretty nice holes

That's a pretty gorgeous river. No "accidental" trout this time?
