    Refurbished Lenses

Anyone out there have any experience with refurbished lenses?

I've seen a few on Canon's estore that have very attractive price tags, but would hate to throw money away on one if it isn't worth it.

Anyone with experience with these, please chime in. Opionions welcome and appreciated.

It only makes sense to buy a refurbished lens if it would be too pricey new. Example: a 300mm f/2.8 might be $4800 new, but $2800 refurb. For consumer lenses, just buy new stuff.

There is a risk, but that's true of new lenses, too. Not all are as sharp as they should be. If you are willing to take a little extra risk to save the bucks, go ahead...as long as they have even a short guarantee period so you can return a dud. If it works initially, it should work for a long time.

I've bought refurbs. Never had a problem. Just make sure they have warranties. Sometimes the retailer is responsible, sometimes the manufacturer. I think it's a good deal.

B&H and Adorama usually offer warranties beyond what the manufacturer does.
