Next up for riding: Bear Lake

Well, I'm off to Bear Lake this weekend for some swimming, camping (RV & Cabin) and ATV'ing.

Anybody going to be up there besides myself, family and friends?

The week after, I'm off to the Paiute for a full week of camping (RV) and ATV'ing & tent camping (on/off the trail).

    Eat yer hearts out!

I'm not certain. This is our first time up there. A friend owns a cabin on the South East corner and he swears there's miles of trail riding and hiking. I saw an episode of AYL that confirms the availability of trails.

Yeah, there's a bunch of riding up on the hill south of Sweetwater, I'm not sure what the area is called but it goes back there a ways.

There's also some riding up almost every canyon on the west side of the lake up in Idaho, such as Paris & Bloomington canyons.

Correction, South/West corner of Bear Lake, in the "town" of Garden City.

Spent the day yesterday exploring the trails to the South/West of Bear Lake (all the way up to Logan Canyon). Here are a few photos from yesterday's outing.

Today, we plan on riding further up the North West side where we encountered some of the most butt puckering trails around. I hope to send photos of those tonight.

Edited to add, I placed a geocache along the way. Once published, it can be found at GC1DEMT

Here are some additional photos from the North/West of Bear Lake.

On a scale of 1-5 (5 being hardest), this section of trail riding was easily a 5+
    -Elevation
    -Rocks
    -Tree roots
-Low fallen tress obstructing the trail
    -Deep snow drifts
    -Severe off camber
    -Loose soil
-Wild animals (moose, badger and a mountain lion)

I placed two geocaches (one was a 5/5), and the helmet came in handy.

While trying to come back, we came across a 25' long by 2.5' thick snow drift and we had no choice but to cross it. My brother-in-law (on his Yamaha motorcycle) went through no issue. I got a slight running start, hydro-planed the entire distance, got sideways and flipped the Kawi ATV, landing hard on the rocks off the snow drift. I have some great bruises, abrasions and lacerations to show for it, but at least I didn't crack open my pumpkin!

Cool. I ride all those trails on my motorcycle quite frequently. I was up there too this weekend but didn't have my bike.

Hey, I think I've got some video of that same place. (I have to upload it to YouTube again, long story.)
