ATV & Camping near I-70 and Fremont Indian Museum

I'm heading down to the Richfield area on June 27th (for 3 days) to scout out and hold a campsite for the following 4th of July weekend (when the other family/friends arrive).

If anyone is interested in meeting-up and doing some ATV'ing along the Paiute, shoot me a PM and we can link up at the Museum or at the 01 staging area, just off I-70 and across the street from the Fremont Indian Musem.

If you'd like to join our camping group, let me know as well; I intend to have a large enough spot for upwards of 5 RV's and a few tents and dogs.

Well, I head out tomorrow for 10 glorious days of camping, hiking and ATV'ing along the Paiute trail just west of Richfield and in/around Marysvale, Circleville, Beaver and Kanosh.

I'll post a trip report w/photos and possibly video upon my return after July 7th.

Well, 10 days later and quite a bit filthier than when I started, but I'm back.

Before I upload some pics, just a few highlights.

Days 1-4 were solo (before family and friends arrived):

    - Encountered a large'ish Mountain Lion crossing my path chasing a Mule deer
    - Almost had a T-Bone collision (on my ATV) with a large Elk
    - Stalled 30' in front of a large Black Bear
    - Placed 7 geocaches in some of the best country anywhere!

Day 5-10 were after family/friends arrived

    - Was stuck between "hunters" tracking two Black Bears along Joe Lott Trail
    - Many early afternoon massive thunderstorms at 9K feet (cold rain feels good when its +90F)
    - My 10 year old tipped his ATV sideways in 4' deep creek and gave us quite the fright
    - Fuel pricing obviously taking their toll, as most campsites that are staked out a week in advance were empty
    - Saved an 8 year old lost in the mountains on a 2 stroke motor-cycle out of fuel and in the midst of a thunderstorm

All-in-all, it was awesome to be out in nature that long, but a full sized shower (no creek filled solar bag) sure felt nice!

How is it you have all the luck when it comes to encounters on your rides, Jim?

Sounds like another great trip. I'm envious!

Couldn't tell you. As for the animal encounters, its because I'm usually way off the beaten path as was the case with the Mtn. Lion and Bears (upwards of 10.5k feet), and I ride quite often solo (easier to sneak up on the critters, I guess).

If you get the chance to ATV, hike, Mt. Bike or motorcycle, the area around Marysvale, Circleville, Joseph simply can't be beat. Creeks, desert, high mountains, forested areas, etc..

The Tushar Mountains are some of the prettiest parts of the state. I can't wait to see your pics.

Here are a few pictures of my 10 day outing. Unfortunately, I only took my phone (2.0mp) with me on most outings.
