Thread: Nikon vs. Canon

    Nikon vs. Canon

My wife and I have been looking at cameras. I like the Canon EOS Rebel XTI, she wants the Nikon D60. Both are comparable on features. We have had two Canons, one film, one digital, both point and shot (I loved the digital). We currently have a Nikon digital point and shot that neither of us like much. Which is the better camera, and which is the easier to use (for her sake)?

tough to say. i might say canon, waltny might say Nikon. Either one will work great, I'd recommend getting your paws on both and seeing which you like better.

What digital Canon do you have? If the lens are compatible, stick with the Canon.

You guess right! I really do like the way the Nikons feel in your hand and the four way directional pad opposed to the click wheel. At the moment in pro glass canon has a few primes that beat nikon(1.2 trinity) but I think that is probally a non issue for you. Ive heard that 3rd party glass is better on the Nikon, but that may also be hearsay.

Lastly, do your own independant research(all sites are biased in my opinion) and then lastly go somewhere and get one in your hands like Dan said.

The Nikon D80 has a couple of strong points over the D60...

    1. The D60 will only autofocus with AF-S lenses. The D80 will autofocus any Nikkor or third party AF lens.

    2. The D60 doesn't have an LCD display on top like on the D80, so you have to use the monitor on the back for everything.

    3. The D60 doesn't take a vertical grip/battery holder, and the D80 does.

Thank you for the info. After looking at the details and alternatives, I think we might go with the D80. However do to vehicle breakdowns it will be awhile before we can get it.

Also, I just found out that D40/D60 don't have automatic exposure bracketing. You have to do it manually. D80 has that, so does Canon XTi

I just purchased the Canon XSI after months of deciding. I no longer want to hear anything about it :D.

Nice, I just got the D80 and I love it. The extra's are worth it over the D40 and D60 in my opinion. It's super customizable, and really easy to make adjustments on the fly.

The XSI is pretty new, and has 2 extra megapixels.

I've always had a sneaky suspicion you don't know how to use your canon...
