    My recent experience with Mormons

This story might be a little boring I apologize.

So last weekend I moved from Cedar City back to St. George. It was cheaper to live up there but driving 45 mins to work everyday sucks. Also with gas prices rising, driving 100+ miles everyday it isn't such a good deal anymore. Plus the wifey likes being closer to her mom, but anyways..... We bought a new house in St George and are going to rent out our house in Cedar.

So I arranged the move, rented the truck, bought lots of boxes, and 4 friends volunteered to help me move on Saturday. I was taking the trash out and my neighbor whose name is also Jake was walking to his car. He was an awesome neighbor, really friendly and on top of what's going on in the subdivision. Everytime I chat with him, he has awesome info. For example, in the contract for our townhouses it specifies the yard has to go out 15 feet. The builder trying to save money only built the brick wall out to 12 feet. So he's working with the builder to knock it down and extend it the full contract distance. I basically just signed the contract and didn't read the fine print so had no idea I'd even been ripped off. So I totally appreciate people like him who are detail oriented.

Anyways, I tell him he has been a wonderful neighbor and here is my cell phone in case the tenants thrash my place or throw loud parties, or whatever. He immediately offers to help me move. Since I already have 4 people coming and really just consider him an acquaintance more than a friend I say "oh that's ok I already have 4 people". He then responds "well 2 more will just help it go faster right?" I agree but don't want to put him out, but there is no way to refute his logic. So I agree. I tell him I feel bad taking advantage, but he insists that it is no trouble at all. He even mentions he will put a call in at his Ward(his church) and see if anyone else wants to come. I tell him sure but am thinking "who the hell wants to helps a stranger move"... How little I knew.....

So the next morning I pull the uhaul up, get all the moving blankets out and get ready for the big move. I head over to Mcdonalds and buy 10 egg mcmuffins for the moving crew. I figure I might as well buy everyone breakfast, lunch, and dinner as a thank you for helping me out. 9 oclock rolls around and a guy comes over. "Hey I'm Jakes friend and here to help you move", he says. I tell him how grateful I am for the extra help and we both start loading boxes. Needless to say, in the next 10 minutes about 9-10 guys showed up from the ward. Then about 9:30 my friends showed up. We got the entire house packed and loaded in about 2 hours. The mormons were extremely polite, they didn't even scratch one thing. I was just shocked!! They wouldn't even let me buy them lunch or eat the breakfast. They just drank some bottled water, wished me well, and left when everything was done. A complete stranger, who they will probably never meet again. Just to be nice. I've never been the recipient of such assistance, it felt really good. I didn't even know how to thank them... nice bottle of Tequila maybe??? (j/k)

Anyways, it was truly a bizarre experience, and it made my life so much easier. I'm still in shock to this day that it even happened and was not some weird dream. GO MORMONS!!

Anyways, just wanted to share what awesome people they are.

    Late

Glad to hear you got so much help for your move, but it doesn't surprise me at all that the Mormons helped out. One of the things I admire about them is their willingness to work together and get things done. Kind of the pioneer spirit carried over to modern times. Frankly, as a class of people, I have never been exposed to any more friendly or helpful. They don't even seem to care that I'm an atheist, when it comes out.

Now, about moving, my wife and I have been moving for the past week. My son and DIL helped us move the big pile from storage to the condo. All new furniture meant the stores did the moving for us. Still, moving all our stuff from the motorhome to the condo took about 8 trips in the SUV. The, unloading, putting away, disposing of about half what we stored, shopping every day for "accessories", we are bushed. But, things are beginning to settle down. As they say, "Never again!".

    Uh-oh!

Didn't you know that there are two ways to get "baptized" into the Mormon church? One is by immersion and the other way is by letting your Mormon neighbors move you into or out of your house. So all I have to say is "Welcome Brother Deathcricket." ;-)

I moved a couple of times and the mormon folk never seemed to help Maybe it's the accent or something.

I do like the mormon people though, hard working, honest and easy going. I'd hire them in a second! Some even know how to party too!

    Hehe!

Maybe since I'm a member now I'll learn the secret handshake.

It'll be time to look into the nearest Beehive Clothing Mills distribution center soon...

Very cool story. The Mormons I've (knowingly) met have unfailingly been kind, giving, and friendly. (They also produced Donny and Marie, but hey, everyone makes mistakes...) Not that I'm about to convert, but it's good to see.

Well........all I can say is.......this kind of experience isn't necessarily typical.

When I moved from Monticello, Utah to Green River, Wyoming I had a quite different experience. I announced to my ward in Monticello a week prior to my move that I could use some help moving. Moving day arrives and exactly ZERO people from the ward show up to help! Finally at around noon a friend of mine and his wife and father-in-law show up, and they only showed because my wife called them from Salt Lake City (I was alone at the time).

Apparently, everyone from my Monticello ward was "BUSY."
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

I haven't been here long enough to develop an opinion about mormons, but I heard stories, good and bad.
I have a mormon co-worker but he rocks, he's what they call "Jack mormon"? He smokes, drinks coffee and wears a beard, heh.
And each time I went to Temple Square they've been nothing but wonderful and polite ;-)

Iv had alot of problems myself with the mormons.
Now not serious problems, just leave me the hell alone! problems.
I dont much care how anyone worships who ever, but my mind is made up, has been for years on my own personal lack of worship.
IF they would stop trying to convert me, specific ones stop turning their noses up at me because Im not a member, I wouldn't really have any problems left with them. Aside from those damned underwear! they need to update that style, maybe some bikini cuts for the girls, the men I prefer to be as covered up as possible.

Maybe they were just happy to get a sinner-gentile out of the neighborhood.

    Forty,

You know that the only wards that meet at the Ute Mountain Casino are Blanding Wards.
