    a trio of arches

Last Tuesday I drove to the carpark by the Lee Pass TH. I walked back down the road a couple hundred yards to the Speed Limit 35 sign and headed up the very brushy drainage. Thru layers of rock I was able to get to the first arch that overlooks the road. I continued up slope but on the east side of the ridge to the saddle or pass where the second arch sits at the north end of a block. Crossing the saddle and directly beneath the Beatty Pt face I was able to hike down to the backside of that bulky arch.

I returned to the ridge and followed atop it as it curves around in the direction of the Lee Pass TH. At the top point of the ridge, I descended through less brushy terrain to the road at the yellow Falling Rocks sign and walked uphill a few yards to the car.

Primarily, a class 1, short hike with unusual rock formations encountered enroute.

There was a photo of that last arch in the World Arch Database. Mike Norton was listed as the photographer and the name given for the arch was Hideaway.

I had intended to try and locate that arch two years ago after you all dropped off me at Lee Pass the day after the 50 miler. Didn't have the legs to get up that wash then. Two years later I had just enough skin left on my legs to get thru that brush . . . as a reward, I suppose, I got to see a couple extra arches.

We found an arch today.. I wonder if it has a name. It was just past North Guardian Angel along the way to South Guardian Angel.
