Malcolm Gladwell, author of Tipping Point and Blink
Any of you folks read any of his books? I've read Tipping Point, but not Blink. He has a unique way of looking at the world. It is quite eye-opening.
Anyway, I just got done listening to him speak at the Salt Palace. Very, very good stuff. He was talking about, amongst other things, his next book (out in November) in which he looks at the deplorable state of mathematics education in the nation. His insights are pretty well right on as far as I am concerned. Basically, he believes that more persistence is needed in America to learn mathematics - students, their teachers, their parents, and culture, in general, give up too soon in learning something that everyone can learn, given time and help.
Check out his forthcoming book because he puts is so much better. The gostak distims the doshes.
