Dewey Bridge Burns Down
Historic suspension bridge near Moab destroyed
April 7th, 2008 @ 8:24am
MOAB, Utah (AP) -- A historic bridge on state Route 128 near the Colorado River has burned down.
Grand County police say a boy playing with matches on Sunday caused the fire. They say he started a brush fire at a campground that moved up the riverbank and destroyed Dewey Bridge.
The suspension bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built in 1916 and was the state's longest bridge without supports in the waterway it crossed.

Wow. I remember passing that thing a couple of times and thinking I should stop and photograph it when the light was better. Hmm.

Tragic. It has been years since I was there, but I hate to see it destroyed.

I was with my buddies when I tried getting a shot of it and of course they had to play with the skinny pedal at the same time.

that sucks. i can remember crossing that bridge in the spring of 76 on a school trip to canyonlands. the school bus we were on was so wide that the mirrors had to folded in completely to make it across. i'm going to miss seeing it whenever i drive the shortcut between I-70 and moab.
But if I agreed with you, we would both be wrong.

What a loss.
This situations are tough. I think there needs to be some accountability for this, but it isn't like the kid is going to be able to pay for this, ruining his life won't bring back the bridge.....
