Dugway Geode Beds
There was a Geocaching Event held over the weekend, and besides quite a few sparkly rocks, I also have these...
Find one, then start picking away.
This was the biggest haul of the weekend
The Claim
Great bit of history in the area, too.
I will take some pictures of our haul home. Pictures probably won't do justice of the crystals, though.Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, as vital to our lives and water and good bread

Curious to see your haul. I've been out there numerous times. My best find was a small geode that had a crystal "scepter" sticking up out of the middle of it. It's a quartz base with a radiating cluster of quartz crystals at the top -- amazing. I can't believe it didn't break when I cracked it open with a hammer!
Rockhounding -- one of the many reasons I'm called the rockgremlin. It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

A couple of days ago, at a rock shop in Springdale, I saw a fellow use a cast iron pipe cutter to split a dugway geode. Much quicker than a saw, easier than a hammer, and did a pretty good job! I was quite impressed.
My boy will be totally impressed by this place - thanks for sharing!

Been there, done that. My Dad was riding motorcycles out that way over the weekend. If you saw some orange flashes go by, that was prolly them.

I've used an electric tile saw to cut the geodes open before. It makes a great clean cut and is very easy, but it's hard on the blades.
