New members this month

Well, we've been trying to install a forum modification for a few weeks now, it hasn't been easy. It was going to display the newest ACTIVE member at the bottom of the main forum page. (not just the newest registered user, which is often a spammer, but a real person that signed up)

But we've done a bunch of stuff to the basic template, making it difficult to find some code.... so this mod will sit on the shelf a bit and make room for some different mods to be programmed.

Anyways, I thought I'd list the new members within the last month that have joined our forum, since we never got that mod going.

Some of these people have posted already, some have just signed in and are a little shy. Then, some may log in again next month on the next newsletter, hopefully they'll make a post in the newbies section.

I'm thinking of adding to the list as they join.

How do we determine they aren't spammers? Well... we're usually about 98% sure, but spammers almost ALWAYS tag a website to their profile, but sometimes the legit do too. So then, it's location. If it's USA or just a country name, usually a spammer. Then, if no country is listed, I look at the hobbies and such.

So there is a chance I'm missing a couple of legit people here and there, as we know there are a couple of people from Germany.... but it's just luck of the draw.

So anyways, probably 10 of these users have posted already, hopefully the rest will come, or at least watch us make fools of ourselves.

Be sure to welcome them when they sign on.

i'm a mod/tech support for wildsurvive and i modded the .htaccess file and added a list of ips know asto spam bots and spammers. and the number of views went down but it stoped most of the fake accounts.

well i usually just check the ips... our main problem at wildsurvive.com is the RIPE server. mostly all spammers.

You can only see the newest member at the bottom, but this doesn't show you the others within the same day that I just activated.

I think I activated 5 today.

they're not approved. I personally look through the members and approve them if they don't look like a spammer.
