Moab over the weekend...
Went down for a long weekend to enjoy some warmer weather, scenery, and beers at the brewery .
Didn't see another Jeep on the trails all weekend, didn't have to wait for a table at the Brewery, Zax or Hacienda, weather was dang near perfect, kept both Jeeps shiny side up - can't ask for much better.
Friday we went to Prichett Arch. Did not see another vehicle or person from the time we left pavement until the time we returned to pavement. Temperature was in the high 60's, not much wind, clear blue skies. Just a very pleasant day enjoying the veiws.
Saturday morning we started up Porcupine Rim. Big rock had fallen into the middle of the road right at the start of the trail. My buddy Steve could have driven right over it, but I didn't want to try it in my little Jeep so we moved it out of the way.
My Wife supervised the operation :
Which assured a complete success :
Didn't get too much farther up the trail though. There was still enough old crusty-crystal-sugar-crap snow that my little Jeep was really struggling in spots, and sliding-getting-tippy towards the edge. Finally got to a spot where I just couldn't get past without winching, decided to just turn around and go find another trail for the day.
Started heading back down Sand Flats, and just decided to do the north side of Fins and Things and play around for the rest of the afternoon. Turned out to be a good call - no more snow, and the only other people we saw were two couples on foot and two girls riding horses. Had the whole thing to ourselves all day. Actually, we had everything to ourselves the whole trip - we didn't see another Jeep on any of the trails the whole time. Had a blast playing around on Fins:
Can't wait for the next time!

I really dig the way that the Highline hood and fenders let him run 35's on only 2" of lift with tons of room for uptravel. Makes for a nice low COG and not too much control arm angle. That Jeep works really, really good the way it is setup.
I'd like to do the same, but doubt that I'll be able to afford it. I'm thinking Sawzall for mine, to make 35's work on a small lift .

Nice pics, looks like you had a great trip. Heading down this weekend hope the weather is good. On your roll over was that at steel bender where the gate use to be. Have always thought that would really be a nasty roll if you went over the edge right there.

I picked the line and went first:
More of a butt clencher than I was anticipating. My Jeep pivoted around on the passenger side rocker as I was just starting my chosen line and all the sudden I was on a completely different line that I really did NOT want to use. But I went down it anyway, and made it just fine.
My buddy decided that since I had made it just fine, that he wanted to take that same line. Big mistake:
What both of us forgot to think about, was that I have 10" longer wheelbase than he does, and it made ALL the difference on that line. Don't want to jinx us by saying "never", but I really don't think we'll make that same mistake again .

Dang, that coulda turned out bad! Would insurance cover something like that? Fortunately his rig turned out nice. I especially like the plate: "GRIMJPR"... priceless!
I wish my lawn was EMO so it would cut itself.

I didn't realize that you guys were going down and not up I'll bet that got your attention. I've been on that trail many many times and we have always thought that if you went over that edge it would not be good. It is becoming a problem for the jeep club during the safari getting the big groups down. Glad nobody got hurt.

Years ago, we used to flop a rig about every other time out. But the rear bumper on my Jeep cost more than any of those entire vehicles did .
I'd love to have a trail only beater to abuse and not worry about. But my new Jeep definitely ain't it! If I ever do roll it, you're gonna see a grown man crying over a broken toy .

That's what I call 4 wheelin'. Thanks for the pics and the story behind them. Most people wouldn't admit it if they had done that. I've been to that spot and wondered if anyone had rolled there. It would definately be bad to go over the ledge on the biggest obstacle.
