Thread: Wildlife that ain't alive!

    Wildlife that ain't alive!

Yeah, I know it sounds morbid, but I've seen some of the coolest "dead" things on occasion.

I'll start the ball rolling with this "crystalized - mummified - spiderwebbed" adorable little creature found in Lost Soldiers Cave.

We need msmnificent's shot of the coyote skull in here - that's mighty cool! I'll not post the photo itself, as it isn't mine, but here's a link to one wild photo:

That cool photo of Malia's is actually the one that prompted this thread! :)
    I LOVE that composition!

Here's another "dead" creature found in North Fork of the Kings River. Three of our party walked right over it/around it without seeing it!
When I swam over there, and started to climb out this log, I'm like "Whoah! Check it out!" and they're like "check what out?"

Went back and did thid trip again a month later and his head had fallen off and gotten washed away, or someone had beheaded it!

High and low...I swing both ways.

I think I prefer the wooley booger to poor ol dead bambi.
I don't like this thread anymore! Too sad!

And just what did you expect

Well, maybe this will pick you up At the time this pic was taken, Bambi's mom was still alive, but not for much longer

But, on the brighter side, dad's doing just fine

Did you kill that deer? It looks like it's sleeping.
Anyhow, I guess I expected more bones than fur, or dead things that had been dead awhile. Not so sad (for me anyway) when they've been dead awhile....course, maybe I just have a fondness for deer over goats? Some of my goats didn't seem to have been "dead a long time "dead.

I've got a few more skeleton shots I'll post once I find them.
    Skeletons are cool!

Actually, I took that pic as an educational tool. When a deer dies, it's eyes are open. If they're closed, they ain't dead yet I didn't kill it, that's a result of Bumper Cancer

As long as its not lead poisoning. And Randi, I never imagined you had this sorta dark fascination with nasty dead rotten things. It is just a wee bit frightening. Go ahead and take the lead on our next hike at Freezefest, I just follow at a safe distance.

    Well, I wouldn't say it's a fascination.
    It's more a morbid curiosity I guess.
I prefer "living" critters to dead ones, but the live ones
usually run away before I can snap off a photo!
I DO have a fascination with insects ~ BUGS ARE COOL!

As a kid, I must admit, I did a lot of killing in the name of scientific research, or what passes for scienticfic research to a 10 year old!
I remember having all these test tubes (filled with alchohol for preservation) and a quite a collection of "dead things" that I had captured and killed.

Don't be frightened though. I grew outta that killing phase, and now I can't stand to even kill a spider or a cricket in the house. I just catch and release em. It drives my kids crazy, cuz I get mad when any of em fall off the "catch and release" bandwagon.

Haven't you seen those old war movies, where the guy's getting his leg sawed off and he bites a stick to relieve the pain? Well, this elk? was probably incapacitated, and the vultures were going at him and there happened to be a stick nearby that he could clench down on! ; )

    Perfectly logical explanation!

Here's another pic - burro bones from the Argus mountain range in Calif.

Oh, and thanks for the fly shot JP - that's a great photo. NICE colors!
I'm not much of a fly fan (though I loved the movie ~ old one and re-make with Jeff Goldblum). He's another actor I found super attractive ~ belongs in Tanya's Seductress thread I know, but I'm posting HERE now!

Anyhow, I'm more a beetle fan. And ants! I think ants are way cool.
And I'm also a fan of spiders. Weird?
I think it's weird not to find them at least a little bit fascinating.
