Thread: Smaller Concealed Firearm

    Smaller Concealed Firearm

I started out with a Beretta 96 FS in .40 Caliber - but it was tough to conceal.

    Beretta: (similar)

I now have a Sig Sauer P239 in .40 and can conceal it fine, but just not in a comfortable, day to day fashion.
    Sig:

My LEO brother carries a ultra lightweight hammerless S&W .38 on his ankle. Out of the way, very light easy to conceal and carry around.

So what's the verdict? Have a gun with more knockdown power (.40) and risk not carrying it all the time because it's cumbersome, or pick up an Airweight .38 and take your chances?

I've got a small .380 auto that is easy to carry in my front pocket. Holds 6.

Grab the hammerless Airweight .38. That, combined with the right ammo, and you'll be ready to rock if things go south in a hurry. That's really all you'd need.

I would just carry the biggest handgun that you're comfortable carrying on a daily basis. It's better to have something rather than nothing.

I don't think caliber or stopping power is as important as many people believe. The mere presence of any firearm that you're carrying would be enough to deter most people from doing you harm, so I guess the risk you take by carrying a smaller caliber is the risk of running into an irrational or impaired person that simply doesn't care whether you poke a few small holes in them.

That being said, I carry a .40, just in case.

Depends on the day, Springfield XD 3 inch 9mm, Kahr CW9mm, or Springfield XD 40 4inch. Sone days I feel like wearing extra layers and will throw on the 40, other days its shorts and a t shirt thats when the 9mm comes in handy.

Go with a Glock 26 or 27. They are pretty close to the same size as a revolver and hold more rounds.

I would also suggest you looking into the SmartCarry holster. They are great for deep concealment. Another bonus is you don't need a good belt to carry. You can even carry in some sweatpants of basketball shorts. They are very comfortable

Also don't discount the value of a good knife.

I have a Sig 239 in 40 but I'm going to pick up one of these when they're available:

I realize it's a bit of a copy but I do like the idea of it being a Ruger.

Try the Bersa Thunder .45. Awesome little gun with some good OOMPH.
Never pistol whip someone with your gun...that could mar the finish.

While living in Vegas a few years back, I shot trap league on a team with a few local police. We'd have a few beers inbetween rounds (yes..the vegas gun club serves drinks) and they got to telling some stories.

One was of this guy who had been shot in the head by his "girlfriend" with a .380. Had two slugs hit him in the forehead. They didn't go through the skull...just the skin. The guy still had the ability to get up and beat the woman into a coma....

    I'll keep my .45....
