Nicely done. Actually, that goes to your wife. Your part was relatively easy. I found that the Lamas method really works. I didn't feel a thing. Girls are great. There is nothing like have your little girl run up to you when you come home from work shouting "Daddy!" 3 girls and one boy for me and my wife. Randi is right, kids are the best.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I just picked up my two boys and got back home after a long night and day at the hospital.
Unfortunately the baby had to go into the (NICU)
intensive care unit at about 3:30 am. She was having a hard time breathing through her nose. We really started noticing this when my wife was breast feeding her for the first time. It sounded like she had a cold and was stuffed up. You know how little kids sound when they get sick. The nurses tried to clear her nose out, but it was not helping. A nurse then tried to put tubes through her nostrils and admit her/check her out like they do. This is when they started to suspect that something was wrong with her nostril cavities. They could not get a tube through one of the nostrils.
What they found was that the nostril cavities developed quite small, not normal. Hence the heavy breathing. It is called, "congenital nasal pyriform aperture stenosis." She has been in the NICU ever since. Since babies and young children are nose breathers, this poses a big problem. They have an oxygen head box on her right now and are monitoring her breathing. We are now waiting for her to be transported to primary children's medical center sometime soon. She will be examined again by a specialist and probably have to go into surgery to correct the nasal problems.
This is a relatively rare congenital birth defect. Our first two boys did not have problems and both came home on the second or third day. They both were a little jaundice and had to be under the billy lights at home for a few days. But that is all that we have experienced. Only parents and grandparents can see the baby in NICU. Which makes it tough on the rest of my family, especially my wife. She is used to taking the baby home right away, keeping it in the room, etc, etc and she had brought an outfit for her to the hospital. Makes you really appreciate your kids and how precious life is. It is very difficult to see your own under these conditions. Well, my eyes are burning, going to get some shut eye.

The wife keeps asking for pictures. I told her you were kinda busy and would get them up as soon as you could. It's too bad that she has these problems but lucky for us we have Primary Childrens here in Salt Lake. It's one of the best childrens hospital in the nation. (And I'm an employee so I'm kinda biased) Hope everything turns out ok and I'm excited to see baby Kate.

I sure is, and a damn proud new uncle...again.
Oh, and I asked some of the nurses who work up in the NICU, and they said it's unfortunate that she has to be there but it's a pretty simple procedure and she is in the best hands.

This is the exact same thing that happened to my son 2 months ago when he was born. They (nicu staff) could not get the tube to pass on the right side. though he was passing more than enough air from the left to not cause huge worry..ie not problems eating, sleeping.
them trying only made the swelling worse which aggravated the breathing even more. Those were scary times, my heart goes out to you and your family."You can judge the character of a man by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him"

So, you're back around (probably for a few minutes) - got surgery scheduled or anything? Has the specialist been to see Kate?
One thing I've learned since inventing the internets: You're never the only one. You'll always find someone else who's been through the same (or very similar) thing. For me, it was the tear duct on my left eye. Had to have it surgically repaired when I was tiny. Funny thing - my younger brother (we're both adopted and NOT related) had the same thing. In the same eye. Not a threat to health or anything, but unusual.
I'm sure it'll all go well. Keep us posted!
