    Tannerite

Anyone messed around with tannerite before? We got some to try last weekend. VERY COOL!! Shoot it with a high powered rifle, and makes a big bang!

I'd love to. Where did you get it?

My dad bought it, I'll have to find out where he got it. Do a search on youtube for tannerite and there's some cool videos of blowing stuff up.

We always do a bunch of mayhem over the 4th of july in WY, so we're saving some for that. We placed a 5 gallon container of gas in my old bronco 2 one year, and blew it up. Not a big bang, like the tannerite, but some big flames. LOL

Amazingly fun... I went shooting with some neighbors of mine, they introduced us to "using it in bulk"... good times.

"Someone" strapped a bottle of Tannerite to a couple sticks of dynamite last year... While it made a nice "boom" I think the dynamite was pretty inert. "Said person found the dynamite in an old mine in Gold Hill, Ut. Several of our "guides" had lived in the area all their lives, they assured us that the dynamite was NOT from that mine, especially its location in the mainshaft (which gets traveled ALOT). It was dry, clean, and in an old Utah Portland Cement company gunny sack. "Someone" carefully packed them out of the mine and rig'd them to the Tannerite. A big boom, but not characteristic of dynamite IMO.

The dynamite as it was found (after it was carefully dumped out of the bag):

Tannerite is the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

The shock wave is intense, unbelievable, just awesome.

Earplugs all around. Seriously, plugs for everyone present.

Hey have you been through the mines at Gold Hill then? Got any pictures? I drove through there once in 2000 and we stopped and played around a little in the mines. In my high school days I used to go exploring in mines with some friends. We found some good ones in Jacob City, Ophir, Fish Springs, Amasa Valley and Frisco. We never found dynamite.

Yes sir, I've been in a couple in the Gold Hill area... I've been into a hanful in the Wasatch Mts, lots in Moab & the Swell, a few in AF Canyon and some other misc. ones. Always interested in more if you have recommendations Ghost-towing and searching out old mines is what got me into the outdoors beyond Boy-Scouts. It still get out alot, with most trip being centered around the "historical" aspects of Utah. I'm currently working on a book, a mix between a 4x4 guide and a history book on American Fork Canyon... hoping to have a rough draft out this spring. Project #2 is a book on the SR Swell, again putting the "destination" back into motorized recreation with a heavy emphasis on convservation, stewardship and Tread Lightly, etc.
