Sure, most of them are Spammers, but it's still quite a milestone.

Sad to say, but I'm thinking that out of 10,000 members about 7500 are spammers.

Too bad there's nothing anybody (including mods) can do about it...
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

Why hasn't someone deleted all the Spammers?

Cause we like to pad our stats around here.

I have asked that question countless times, and I've yet to hear a good reply.

    We'd hate to eliminate you.

We can go through and do some "pruning". It just takes a little time, plus there are a few things I'd like to spend time on in front of that, like adding photos to the slideshow, getting rid of the "uutah game" letters in the image bar, update the mountain bike trail index, finish uploading all of my videos to the uutah youtube account and fix the broken links....

There are some measures taken to prevent a lot more from joining, such as the "text in image" recognition at registration, and Admin also makes a conscious decision a lot of the time to even grant certain people the access to make a post in the first place.

Yes, there are a lot of spammers on the list, but thanks to a lot of these measures in place, I haven't seen any of them make a post for the best part of this year.

BTW, welcome our 10,000th member, DrargyKaria! http://uutah.com/forum/profile.php?m...rofile&u=10312

At least it's not a porn spammer.

Another MOD I found at phpBB.com:

    http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewt...?f=16&t=552845

On the registration screen, there is a spot to enter a code or answer to a question. You can put the code anywhere, and put instructions to find it beside the input box, or use a question and answer. You can ask "what is the last word in the black "sponsored by" box on the top left of every page?" Why, it's mountaineering!

I use it on a mountaineering forum I'm developing, with the following question: "The long flexible thing that you tie to your harness. It joins you to other climbers. (4 letters)" The person registering has to enter "rope", or the registration doesn't work. Defeats spambots, and hopefully those in other countries, whose English sucks, getting 6 cents an hour to swarm phpBB boards.

It won't get rid of the spammers that are already signed up, (that'll just take a little time and effort. Another forum I ran without this mod was receiving 50 or more a day signing up), but it should stop many from joining in future.
