    ?Spider ID?

    Hi

Found this spider y'day while hiking near Black Mtn. Thought it was a wolf spider at first, but never seen one so large and with these markings. Anyone out there know what it is?

    That's gotta be a tarantula?

The P girl sees them this time of year in City Creek. Quite often.

    Nice close up!

I'm far, far, far from an expert on spiders (the things give me heebie jeebies), but I'm guessing that's a member of the Lycosidae (wolf spider) family. Check out this page:

    Here's another good spider guide:

There's an excellent Flickr group, ID Please, where a number of bug and spider lovers hang out. If you want I can post it there and see if anyone can give you the genus and species name.

Nice shot! Looks straight out of a nature magazine!

Looks like a Wolf Spider to me. Wolf Spiders can get rather large.
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.
