    When did the new Millennium begin?

    So I was watching Seinfeld tonight, the Newmannium episode;

    Back in '99, there was a mild debate on whether the new Millennium would begin in the year 2000, or 2001.

    What side were/are you on?

    OK, here's my thesis

    A.D. means Anno Domini, or the "Meridian of Time", directly tied with the birth of Christ. Our time system does not require one to be Christian to admit the year, this isn't the point, so get over it.

    Anyways, people will argue that there was no "Year Zero". But this is just like saying a newborn is zero years old. The year 1 A.D. occurred 1 year after the birth of Christ.

    On the same comparison, my 1 year old child is actually in his 2nd year. He is 14 months old. He was never zero years old, we just recognized it in months before the year mark. So on his 10th birthday, he will have completed a full decade alive, 10 years. One minute after his 10th anniversary of being born, he will begin his uncompleted 11th year.

    This is the same reason we recognize a new day at 12:00 am, instead of 12:01 am. The last possible time frame within that day is the 23rd hour, 59th minute, and 59th second, and so on, so 11:59:59 PM. But once you hit hour 24, you're in a new day.

    So, I submitted the answer was Jan 1st of 2000 being the beginning of the new millennium.

    Oh, and by the way, I was in Times Square on December 31st, 1999 at 11:59 PM. Very big partayyyy.
