    "Canyoneering" sort of?

I started thinking. What a concept! (thinking) I showed a couple photos of a "near catatophe" in Behunin and realized that each and every experience that is posted on this forum is at the brink of catastrophe! Thats what makes the posts and sharing so exciting!

Tanya and I decided to hike Kolob Creek (my decision) in conditions similar to my near death experience in Behunin Canyon some years previously. Maybe I didn't learn? I have always been very protective of anyone I choose to lead on a hike, but maybe my intrigue with a very lovely woman and great hiking partner blinded me? EGO? Probably.

We made it to the second to last rappel (once again!) before the thunder and lightening and heavy rains prodded me into the "urgent mode". Water levels were definately rising and I was in a hurry. Maybe it was to spare my own life? Maybe it was to retain some sort of creditability as a hiking partner? Ok....anyway we made it out before any serious consequences, other than double drybagged cameras that couldn't be reached for photos of our face to face run in with Mister Cougar. I will remember this hike forever.

It was awesome! Probably my all time favorite hike!

How often does one get to face a mountain lion?!?!?!!?!?!? ..out run a flash flood (okay... so we ended up doing that one most weekends that year!... and do Kolob with a hefty water flow?

Oh... and I almost forgot the hornet nest that got stuck in my hair before we even dropped into the canyon... Owies!!!!!

And most of all..... those horrible waterfalls on my head.

    Those hikes are "retrospective fun."
You know it's a great time, just not while you're doing it!

Bo and Tanya, that is a cool little story. Running in with a mountain lion is sure a life changing experience. I had my run in with the beast about 15 years ago, I remember the day like it was a couple of hours ago.

And to answer Tanya's question, here is the man behind the beautiful pictures himself, Dan Ransom! */me doing the drum roll*
