I'll be visiting Utah for the first time

Hi all, I found this great site. I'll be visiting Utah for the first time in September--the 12th to be exact. My girlfriend and I will fly into SLC to meet up with her sister for five days or so of hiking and camping. Not 100% sure where we're going yet, but I have a lot of questions.

I've done a lot of hiking and camping in the Whites in NE, but the desert is a whole 'nuther thing. I have lots of questions about water, temperatures at night vs. day, critters like marmots and scorpions and rattlers, any special gear needed like gaitors...

Thanks in advance for any help or advice...

    Welcome to the forum!

What part of Utah will you be visiting? Utah has every geographical landscape on earth, except the ocean. There are plenty of choices for hiking.

Welcome to the site, find out where you guys are heading and we can help you plan the trip/gear. Remember, Utah goes from 4,000 foot desert to 13,500 foot snow covered peaks....

We've headed out to Moab, UT for a few years now during Easter, very nice area.

Nothing to see here.... move along. All photos on this site are photo shopped. Ugly state. National Geographic photographers are crazy for voting Utah as the most photogenic state. The Desert is just sand and rocks. Everything there is to see in Utah you can see from I-15. I'd go to Disneyland. Oh ya, welcome.

Hey all...thanks for the nice Utah welcome...i promise i'll treat it all good and won't leave a trace...well, maybe a cathole or two and gob or two of skoal...

i'm going to head to some of the the other parts of the forum now...don't have specific plans as of yet...we're thinking of the obvious: zion, bryce, arches...going to leave the driving decisons to her...my gf's sister moved there to slc a few months back and is tearing all over the state in her free time...my gf was there back in June and did a quick tour...

    thanks for everything...
