    I.D. my snakes

My yard has been infested with these snakes. What kind are they? I threw a praying mantis in with one of them and it bit it and messed up the P.M.'s nervous system.

I think they're some kind of garter or water snake, I have them in my yard, I always catch and relocate them because I've seen them hunting and eating goldfish out of my pond.

They are totally mellow little guys, I'd say maybe 1 out of 20 tries to nip me, contrast that with gopher or bull snakes, who will bite me every time.

Those don't look like garter snakes and they don't bite. Ask Google.

I found a pic, it looks like a match, it's a Western Terrestrial Garter Snake:

Good call. Those look like big-uns compared to what I have seen. My 4 year old picks them up and tortures them all the time up at
    Bear Lake.

Me too, maybe it's because I hunt and 86 them before they can grow large on a diet of my fish, but most of the ones I catch are around a foot long, rarely over two.

Looks like a baby garter snake, but the ones around my house are VERY aggressive.

Here is one I came across at Ogden Bay... nearly 3' long

It was very passive. I was wearing sandals and didn't mess around wtih it too much, but it just hung out as I walked by.
