I.D. my snakes
My yard has been infested with these snakes. What kind are they? I threw a praying mantis in with one of them and it bit it and messed up the P.M.'s nervous system.

I think they're some kind of garter or water snake, I have them in my yard, I always catch and relocate them because I've seen them hunting and eating goldfish out of my pond.
They are totally mellow little guys, I'd say maybe 1 out of 20 tries to nip me, contrast that with gopher or bull snakes, who will bite me every time.

Those don't look like garter snakes and they don't bite. Ask Google.

I found a pic, it looks like a match, it's a Western Terrestrial Garter Snake:

Here is one I came across at Ogden Bay... nearly 3' long
It was very passive. I was wearing sandals and didn't mess around wtih it too much, but it just hung out as I walked by.Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, as vital to our lives and water and good bread
