    Glenwild Loop TR

I was really happy with this trail. It had good climbs, but not killer.

We took the larger loop, @ 8.6 miles.

There was plenty of fast downhill through the trees, and @ 2 miles through the sage brush that really reminded me of the JEM trail, with more prairie grass.

There were two climbs, and two downhills. I'd gladly ride this again.

We had 8 of us, and we hear that KanyonKris got a little head start on us also. We also met johnnyspoke in the parking lot, so all together we had about 13 of us?

I'll let accadacca tell his story too.....

Sweet ride. Wish I coulda joined you. Instead our softball team was busy IMPLODING after a 12 run lead.

Note to self... Group rides are always better than softball...

Very nice pictures there Justin! I like the biker in the clouds. And the demon about to get Caburt.

This ride was awesome, and there is still plenty to explore up there. I liked the relaxing uphill.

Couldn't have asked for better weather.
    Ouch my freaking ears....

Yes, good photos. I took a few - I'll upload them tomorrow.

UPDATE: Mark posted my photos on his blog so go there to see them - http://utrider.blogspot.com/2007/07/...lying-dog.html

I'm glad you guys took the lower loop, because I'm not sure you would have liked the upper loop we did that included the Flying Dog trail. Not that it was a bad trail, it was just long and had way more climbing than I expected. Here's the low down:

Mark and I rode from the Spring Creek trail head out on Stealth then continued on 24-7 then took the sharp right (think switchback) onto the Preserve Connector trail then turned left onto Flying Dog taking it up and over the ridge then down to 24-7 to backtrack to the trail head. A nice out-n-loop-n-back ride.

With all the glowing reviews, I was a bit disappointed, but I think I just let my expectations get away from me. It's a good trail. It was rockier than I expected from riding other Park City trail over by Deer Valley and Park City Mountain Resort. Scrubbier too - I expected more big trees. It climbs a lot more than I envisioned - but I like to climb so that's OK with me. We had storm clouds in the sky so it stayed cool (fortunately we only got a few drops of rain), but in full sun on a summer day this trail will bake you - lots of sun exposure with the only shade being the upper part of Flying Dog.

Still, I liked the trail. It's well constructed and even though it climbs a lot, the grade is pretty mellow except for a very few spots. I was in my middle ring the whole ride and it was fun to cruise this trail. Coming down was a blast - the trails flow very well.

Coming back we tried the Ant Hill downhill trail. Let's just say I'll never pass as a DH rider. I didn't get up enough speed to take it properly and just blooped over the jumps. The banked turns and the mellow elevated platforms were fun. The climb up Fink Again was longer than I expected.

Overall a fun trail. Kind of like Super Lambert. The out-n-loop-n-back plus Ant Hill was just under 20 miles.

As an aside, Mark locked his keys in the car and that cost us 1/2 hour - otherwise we may have made it back in time to meet up with the main UUtah contingent. I chatted with accadacca, cabert and son of fourtycal at the trail head when we returned.

Looks like I missed a good ride, especialy when I have been itching to get out there and ride. I will make it up to that trail thursday after work. LikeI posted on the invitaion link, I was changing my pedals out, (upgraded the old eggbeaters to some new ones) and one side came off with ease. I then went to remove the side by the sprokets and that pedal wouldnt budge, long story short, the cresent wrench I was using sliped off when I was wrenching on it and my hand went crashing into the sprocket tearing off fingernails from 3 fingers and the teeth went into my fingers close to the bone, enough to make two fingers squirt a little blood out. Fingers are sore and swolen but I think I will be able to take an easy ride on thursday? So if anyone wants to go to park city after work to ride I will be there.

Two wheels are better than four, keep the rubber side down.

Here's a few pictures we took. I'm terrible with introductions, but it looks like a met a few of you. We took stealth to 24/7, to flying dog, to the connector, up and over the top and back down flying dog and closed by heading back to the cars on 24/7 and Stealth. Fun trail. I liked it better this way than climbing flying dog and going down by Cobblestone and out Glenwild, less sagebrush and a few more rocks to keep things interesting.

My buddy and I felt the fun to work factor on this trail was very good. Lots of fun, not a lot of work. Although the scenic value pales in comparison to some of the others we've hit this year-Thunder Mountain, Cassidy/Casto/Losee, Wasatch Crest-Mid Mountain loop, this one was just plain fun from beginning to end.

Kris, I must have talked to you for a while in the parking lot. I loaned your riding partner the water bottle. Glad you guys had a great ride!

    Nice pictures.

Good trail , good people , good weather , and...well...Taco Bell was...Taco Bell; Not much to say about that. It was nice meeting you guys. Don't hate if I don't remember all your names at the next one. It might take one or two more trips.
Damn you, vile woman, you've impeded my work since the day I escaped your wretched womb.

Agreed. Although I would like to try doing the big loop counter-clock-wise to go up Glenwild then up Flying Dog then down to 24/7 and Stealth to get back to the trial head. Another day.

Also agree. Cassidy/Casto/Losee is awesome (except for how hammered the trails are becoming because of the commercial horse rides). I hope to do the Crest/Mid Mountain Loop this year - gotta be good.

Yes, that was me and Mark. Thanks for the bottle, it saved our ride! I hope you got it back OK - we left it on/near your car.

I'll have to write the story later, one hand typing sucks. I finally went to the doctor this afternoon. I have a broken wrist (distal radius fracture). My orthopedic specialist will have to determine if its an "intra" or "extra-articular" fracture. I have a temporary full length cast and I will get a permanent one from the ortho dood soon. 6 WEEKS! Frustrated

Sorry to hear the bad news. Broken bones suck, but broken bones suck worse in the summer months. Having broken more than my fare share of bones, I feel your pain & frustration.

I'm just glad you didn't poke an eye out on that super-gravity sagebrush you encountered.

    Speedy recovery!!!

On to my portion of the trail report, I headed up the trail to the three downhill runs and took AntHill down and Fink again back around. I started the Team Cutthroat Trail (Experts Only Designated) and thought better to go it alone. It looked sick from the first 100 feet I went down it though.

The ride up Fink again, as Kris mentioned, is long. It would be better to go up AntHill and down one of the others.

I personally didn't care too much for the Glenwild loop too much. The uphill wasn't bad, but the downhill sections were always ruined by tight switchbacks. The company made up for the faults though. It's always nice riding with you fellas.

Yeah, I think September with the leaves changing would be awesome. Lots of quakies on Mid mountain.

Thanks for the bottle, it saved our ride! I hope you got it back OK - we left it on/near your car.
Yes, I got it back fine. Glad I could help out.

Nice pics Sombeech. Nice observation Carpey Bigs... ahem.
So I'm the bad friend who let Scott face plant in the bushes. Right after he said, 'I'm feeling light headed', I told him he should probably sit down and at that second he started falling forward really slow. I thought he was joking so I just kind of let him go, then all of a sudden he was eating some Park City scrub. It was crazy! I've never seen someone pass out like that. He took it like a champ though and I was afraid he was lying about feeling okay so I followed him back to the trail head. Even riding one handed, he still beat me back!
