    Critter Sightings

On my Ridge Trail ride tonight I saw more wildlife than I've seen in quite some time. I saw: 2 deer, 2 bull moose (different locations), several sage hens, a really big snake- non rattler species, and, here's the kicker, I think I spotted a wolf. It ran across the trail about 10 yards in front of me then disappeared into the thick forest trees. I was about 1/3 of the way down Deer Creek South Fork. I've seen coyotes before but this animal was much bigger and very gray colored. My question is, how do you tell the difference between a wolf and a coyote? And, does anybody know of any wolf sightings near here? Also, should I report it and to whom?
    Are we there yet?

    was it walking upright?
    was there a full moon?
I used to be concerned about my apathy, but now I don't care anymore.

I would call or email the DWR: http://www.wildlife.utah.gov/about/contact.php

I saw a wolf in Idaho the winter before last, the thing that struck me most about it, was how long of a body it had. The wolf I saw ran in front of my car as I was driving up to Jackson Hole. Very cool to see! :D

I'm not sure how helpful this is, but here are links to a Google Image search for both coyotes and wolves:

I believe I saw a wolf on the Wasatch Plateau about six years ago during the elk hunt--at least, it was way too big to be a coyote, and it was very light in color. I'm sure they're out there.

YUP! Like the one young Leonedis killed in the 300....

Hey Udink- Have you noticed the kitty tracks around the top of Floating Rocks? Big as your hand. Judging by the tail-drag tracks, a young cougar is lookin' around. COOL...
