Tracking a Vanished Civilization in the Southwest

Craig Childs is probably my favorite NPR commentator, and a great writer. Today he submitted a story on tracking down remains on the Anasazi people in the southwest:

Oh Man - I can't believe I missed it. I'm reading "House of Rain" right now and it's a great book. I made a trip to a bunch of the places he writes about this past spring and am now planning a trip back in the fall - knowing what I know now from his book will make it all that more interesting.

This is my favorite Craig Childs commentary:

I just finished The Secret Knowledge of Water, and loved it. I want to go down to the desert to seek out some tinajas. But, my logical mind knows that I would be crazy to go out into the desert for a couple of days right now trying to find water that may or may not exist.

House of Rain and The Soul of Nowhere are both on my reading list. Hopefully I'll get to both of them by the end of summer.
