New Trip Report and Gallery: The Crossing
Hey, everybody. I just finished posting a big new gallery on my website from a trip last month to southwest Texas, including Big Bend National Park. Uutahers might be especially interested because at one point we dealt with a flash flood. Also, you get a shiny dime if you are the first to tell me where I got the music on the soundtrack of my QuickTime movie. Check it out!

Come on Uutahianites! I thought at least one of our gang would recognize the music! Hint: it's from a movie.
Here's the direct link...

Grrrr!
Sorry, gang: the host of richardbarron.net, mysitespace.com, is having serious problems. They got invaded by some unwanted code that appeared on all the index.html files (including mine), and in the process of cleaning things up, it appears they are having to reinstall and repair a whole lot of stuff. In the mean time, my apologies if you are trying to visit our site.

Okay, it's from Black Hawk Down. It's taken from the scene in which the helicopters leave the base and fly out over the beach on their approach to the Bakara Market. It was always my favorite scene in the movie, and I've been wanting to use it in something for years.

Back, Sorta, for the Moment
Okay, my web site is back up, at least for the moment. The core problem was that the provider, mysitespace.com, got invaded, probably by a virus, trojan horse, or some other malfeasant code, and deposited a bunch of hidden lines of code on all our index.html pages. Most of my pages were contaminated, as were most of my friend Michael's (zig81.com). Presumably the code contained pop-ups, tracers, spyware, etc. Most of the lines of code contained repeated reference to Cialis and Viagra. It appeared that mysitespace had to reinstall entire drives and/or systems.
For the moment, anyway, the public parts of my web site are back in service, though it would not surprise me to see them come and go for a while yet. I have ftp, but still no POP mail. Time will tell, I guess.
Anyway, I thought it was an unusual and interesting problem that I would share. For anyone fluent in html, here is a sample of the invasive code...

Mysitespace.com is finally really fixing my web site. In the mean time, you can temporarily access our site at our IP address: http://74.200.204.130/~richardb/
I'll let everybody know when the real deal is back in service.
