    1974 Toyota Landcruiser

My neighbor is selling this beast. Don't know much about em. What do you guys think? The interior is pretty trashed and it could use a little body work. He wants 7700 for it though. Is it worth that much?

    Mmmm, Chevy 350...

I know nothing, though, so I'll watch for those in the know to comment...

$7700 is a little steep. I don't know when Toyota went from a small spline count on their axle shafts to the larger spline count. The more spline on an axle shaft equals more strength.

old land cruisers don't die easily.
But if I agreed with you, we would both be wrong.

Too high..though I do like the cruizers.

    Yeah, I think it's a little high.

Raising the selling price sounds logical when you dump a lot of money & gear into the vehicle, but the cold hard truth is it's rarely worth it.

I learned this lesson the hard way, twice. (so I guess the first one didn't count)

You rarely or never at all get your money back from a sale. You lose when you build a rig and then decide to sell it. The only way you might get it back is if the vehicle was CLEAN. I got my money back on one, that was because it was clean, very clean and moderately built.

If the guy gets 7700 for it, let me know who he sells it to. I've got a bridge he might want to buy. As said, investment in a wheeling rig does not equal resale value. If anything it detracts from the value.

I have had 3 FJ40 Cruisers and I have made money on all of them. If I were to buy one, I would get a 1977-1983 they had disc brakes up front and some models offered power steering and AC. From the looks of this cruiser, I would be surprised if he sold it for his asking price. Land cruisers are actually worth more if they are in a more original condition. I dropped in a Chevy straight six instead of a 350 in the last cruiser that I owned. I have learned that the stock drive lines can not handle the power of the 350. The straight six is a heavier motor and offers plenty of low end torque. I sold a 1977 in 1994 for about 10500.00 I later found out that I left about 8000.00 on the table. That is what I get for being suckered into selling it to a dealer. I should have checked the market before selling. Check out www.cruizers.com

Wow, thank you for the vast amounts of information. Thats why you guys are the best. I talked to the guy today, turns out he is getting a divorce and selling it to pay court fees. Thats why he wants 7700. I think I'm gonna have to pass on this one.
