Rear Shock?

My rear shock died while riding Porcupine Rim two weeks ago. Any suggestions on a replacement? I've got some time to shop. I broke my arm (my left arm, not my swing arm) at I Street last Friday.

I am not a bike guru like greyhair... but what are you riding and looking for?

Thanks. From the x-ray it looks like it'll heal well. Split the radius down the middle from the wrist for about 20mm. Too bad machines don't heal like bones. Or it's too bad bones aren't field maintainable.

I like the fast downhills. Moderate drops, bumps, jumps. I like to fly over the baby heads. I'd like something for going really fast on P-Rim, Bearclaw Poppy, and a bit harder.

I had a Fox Vanilla Float and it worked just fine for me, when it worked. But then it died quick and without warning at the inopportune moment. Luckily the group pack mule brought his shock pump, but stopping every 20 minutes to inflate my shock got annoying.

I'd prefer coil over. If I can avoid an air shock I'd like to. Normal tools rebuildable would be nice too. Something rate and rebound adjustable.

I just got a Vector DH1 from X-Fusion

I have yet give it a good test ride... stupid snow. I pedaled around the neighborhood yesterday for an hour... so far so good

I dont know about a guru but I am a little obsessed with the bike thingy.
Fox is my favorite shock, mainly because everyone can work on them and you can find 'parts' in just about every shop on the planet. I run a Fox Float...the one with a coil and and oil dampening chamber on my downhill rig...stinkin thing act's like it's indestructable. I am #205 and 6' and I have never bottomed it out...that I can tell.
...AND, if you need to have a real pro rebuild it you can send it in to Fox and, for a nominal fee(cheaper than a new one) they'll rebuild it for you good as new, which Ive done twice( abt $45 each time)
Other 'cheap' shocks are not worth rebuilding and should just be replaced. It's funny you should say your shock failed on Porcupine Rim, 'cause that is exactly where I blew out my first one...coming down the first obstacle course section after the lookout point on the rim...blew the shock right through the frame of the bike!

I quite fond of my new marz Roco world cup, feels like I have a 888 on the rear swing arm of my downhill ride. i have rode alot of different rear shocks, for ease of tunning this one is in the top two.

I wish Id gotten a chance to test that one out at Interbike! Id forgotten about that one....I like anything from the big M! I still have a Shiver 200m on the front that WILL NOT DIE!!
