Moab's Lion's Back Fin CLOSED FOREVER
I've just heard that Moab's famous Lion's Back Fin and the Dump Bump are closed forever.
It seems that a private developer has purchased the property and closed access to both of these trail obstacles. Later this year the developer plans to begin building a series of single and multiple family dwellings in the area.
Access has been maintained to Hell's Revenge trail.
I am posting a link to what might be the last video of the Lion's Back Fin. I made the video a couple years ago and it was posted to YouTube for me by Sombeech.

Come to think of it.... isn't that where the landfill is as well?

The dump is across and down the road a little.
Yup, Lions Back and Dump Bump are gone forever (most likely). We're investigating some options, but there isn't much hope.

Are you sure that picture is from dump bump? That's a TJ, so the picture must be 10 years old or less. I've never seen photos with a tree next to dump bump, and I've never seen evidence of a tree being there. The stuff in the background doesn't look quite right either.

It will continue, and not only in Moab. SITLA sells land to private parties to raise money for Utah schools. SUWA, Sierra Club, and their friends from gang-green spend millions of dollars each year in Utah to close motorized access on public lands.
If we had the resources, we could've saved Dump Bump and Lions Back from closure. It would've required some work at the county level that should've been started years ago. We don't have the resources to protect everything.
If you're mad about this, then you're really going to be mad in the next two years. Every Forest and BLM Office will be revising their motorized travel plan in the next 2 years. We will be losing some routes. How much we lose depends on how involved people get.
Donate to land use causes. There's no better way to spend a few bucks if you want to continue to enjoy motorized access on public land in Utah.

I hear ya! I am already involved at the grassroots level up here in southwest wyoming with the BLM and the Forest Service...and you think you dont have enough support THERE, you ought to try to work with only a few DOZEN people in the entire area and try to oppose the oil companies who buy up leases all over the state and wont let you use the land for fear of messing up and oilrig site and you get to watch them tear the shit out of the land right in front of your eyes..OH yeah, fun stuff!
...OH, and I am not an environmentalist...just a guy who thinks we all should be able to share the wealth of land useage
