    Moab Trip Report

I finally made it to Moab yesterday (Saturday) for a quick day trip. Weather was perfect- sunny, blue skies with temps close to 60 and no wind. We rode Amassa Back in the morning and Klondike Bluffs in the afternoon. Both trails were in perfect condition. Amassa was completely dry and Klondike had just a bit of ice right at the top. As a side note, the new Stumpjumper was awesome! It felt more stable than the Ellsworth which helped with the descending confidence level on Amassa. The bike rocks! Also, I put the Kenda Nevegal on the front wheel. It's supposed to be a 2.35 size but looks bigger than that. Best Moab tire I've used down there. It eats the rocky, loose terrain up. It's too heavy for the Wasatch front riding but for Moab was perfect. Great day!

Me too, it's less than 4 hours . I used to make it a day trip.

Steve, that sounds like a ball. Thanks for the renewed motivation

    Stevey,

I'm still down here. I guess I should have let ppl know I was coming down. I did Poison Spider on saturday and then spent the rest of the day climbing at Wall Street.

On sunday I did the Moab Rim Trail, went to church and watched Nascar at the Brewery. I'm not sure what today has in store, maybe Gemini Bridges.

    Steve,
Nice work of making a quick trip out to Moab, I am ready to get down there hopefully friday? I cant decide if I want to hit moab or go to St George, both are apealing. You like the new stumpjumper it sounds, I am looking for an additional bike probably in the 5 inch range of suspension. I have a Fuel 95 so that works for the majoritry of my cross country needsbut I was looking at a couple of bikes, Santa cruz (Nomad or blur?) Ellsworth (probably truth) Let me know what you think about your bike of choice and why you like the stumpjumper over the Ellsworth. Thanks!

I liked how the Stumpy felt for my size (6'7", 215 lbs), the 5" of travel, the overall design, etc. Allot came down to warranty with Specialized vs Ellsworth. Ellsworth is no longer offering a lifetime warranty and have a bad reputation for not honoring warranties at all. Case in point: I've been riding an Ells. for the last 4 years. I cracked the frame and since they don't make that same frame anymore (Isis) they only offered me half price for an overpriced Truth frame which just has so, so reviews. Specialized offered me a 2007 Stumpjumper Pro frame with a lifetime warranty. The frame retails for about $1600 but they also gave me $500 to trade my Ells. frame into them. So in my mind I get a great frame which came with the rear shock and 'brain' valve, plus a Thomson seat post and a lifetime warranty for a couple hundred buck less than I would have paid for the Truth frame with a laughable warranty. It was refreshing to have a company(Specalized) that acted like they actually WANTED my business and have the resources and warranty to stand behind their product. Now I don't mean to turn this into an Ellsworth bash session because, to their credit, the bike did last me 4 years before cracking and that's 3 years longer than any other bike I've owned (GT i-Drive, Trek, Giant). I also liked the Santa Cruz Blur and have heard that it has been holding up for bigger riders but, again Specialized stepped up to the plate and offered the better deal.

    Thanks

    Cool,
I appreciate the feedback, I am going to get out and try to ride a few different frames before I make a final decision on what to buy and I don't want to run into any issues with warranties of any sort. Thanks for the info man.

I agree with Tallsteve, Specialized bikes are probably the best mass produced bikes that one can buy for the money. Elsworth has some nice welds and anodized colors, however I have known several people that have cracked their frames. I have been told that they shot peen their frames to make them stronger. I think that this process may make them too brittle thus causing frame failure. I don't think you could go wrong with any specialized product.

I thought Mark Martin got robbed. The caution should have come out immediately. Definitely a wild but flawed finish.

I totally agree. And I hate that bitch, Kevin Harvick.

Well, I am not sure I want to get another "mass produced bike" I am willing to fork a little more cash to get something a little different and would hope that it may be a little better of a bike, I guess I have to ride them to see and really get into the reviews from various sources.
Now to nascar, I am a new fan and trying to find a driver that I like I think Boris has a cool name and some killer hair; however, I wish he was in more races. I am still trying to understand all the shit that goes with nascar.
