Why Do People Remove Clothing as They Freeze to Death?

Victims of even slight hypothermia often exhibit altered states of judgment, which is known in mountaineering circles as being "cold stupid". One common but especially bizarre behavior of hypothermia victims is a conundrum known as "paradoxical undressing".

Because as hypothermia sets in, your skin feels as if it was on fire and things rubbing against the skin compounds the feelings. This amongst an altered state of mind is the reason why people in advanced stages of hypothermia, take their clothes off. They think they're hot when obviously they're not
