things i have learned from mtn biking
May 15, 2006
thing i have learned while on my mountain bike
1. If you can not climb a hill in anyother gear than granny, break your granny gear, you will get it in second gear the next time you ride it.
2. pain is a good thing, one to relished and even worn as a badge.
3. you wann get good at climbing hills...go climb hills.
4. tis easier to take weight off your bike than off your ass.
5. nothing like a ride with a group of guys...
6. nothing like a ride solo...
7. political arguments do not change in the mountains..
8. there is a difference between comptetivness and pride. to compete is good, pride gets in ones way of getting better. i have seen a lot of good bikers quit as they could not take loosing.
9. loosing is not always loosing
10. to compete against oneself is the biggest challenge of all.
11. there is nothing like overcoming that little voice in your head that tells you..."you will never make it to the top of that hill...fat ass!"
12. mtn biking is more about a feel than what you see.
13. riding in crowded places suck.
14. there is no such thing as a bad trial.
15. if you must ask...why would you want to mtn bike...? you would not understand even if i explained it.
16. if you get a big enough camel back, you only have to refill once a week. the mold in the tube actually tastes pretty good.
17. pain is only temporary, but if your friends name a hill after you, cuz you were chicken shit to go down it...well that stuff lastes forever.
18. it is best to ride with your sons, after they have been living at sea level for a while...
19. it is ok to crash and burn on your bike..and even scratch it up..but damn it you had never scratch up my bike on your bike rack.
20. the view is alway better if i am follwing my wife...(sorry edog, tag and skydog)

what i have learned from mtn biking part dooooo
1. whever you focus your eyes is where you are goning to end up.
2. the tighter you hold on to your bike, the more likely you are to crash and burn. as jack johnson would say.."move like a jelly fish"
3. getting lost is a good thing...tis good for the soul
4. when you get to a fork in the trial...take the one that goes uphill, the rewards are always better
5. down hill is a lot more fun if you earn it first.
6. tis better to go uphill first
7. if you are feeling shitty, ride fast. that way you out ride that shitty feeling.
8. street riding sucks
9. two eyes are optional when you are mtn biking one is mandatory.
10. getting to the top of a hill is optional, getting down is mandatory!
11. horses suck
12. a chrome helmet is the only way to go....you are much easier to find if you take a bad spill.

Nice
Great list, all that I would have to add is some reference to night riding!!
Two wheels are better than four, keep the rubber side down.

EXCELLENT!
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. ~ Frost

Mostly Ive learned how not to get old - the more I ride the younger I feel, it's just that the body takes longer to recuperate now....taking THAT into account, I ride til Im DONE...whenever that its. -WEIGHT?? what's that? Just ride slower and take more breaks
