    South Dakota Pheasant trip 06

Finally I am getting around to posting some pictures from our yearly South Dakota hunting trip. We left on Thursday the 16th for the 10 1/2 hour drive. It was exhausting. Anything over about 5 hours is too much for me in one day. We finally arrived after what seemed like forever, but it was all well worth it. The weather was nice (too nice for hunting) and the birds were plenty. We saw lots of birds, but we had to hunt hard to get to them. After five days of hunting we were all exhausted, and so sore we could barely move. We drove home the day before Thanksgiving so we could enjoy the holiday and re-cooperate a little. There were ten of us in the group, mostly related. What a great time!!! I am already counting the days until next year.

Don't talk unless you can improve the silence.
The trout do not rise in the cemetery, so you better do your fishing while you are still alive. SGH

Looks great! Was the hunting up there enough better than here in Utah to make it worth a 10 hour drive?

Yes the hunting is that much better!! I hunted here in Utah on a private farm for the opener. There were lots of birds (20-30), but in South Dakota lots of birds means a couple hundred. We pushed one field that had over 100 roosters in it, and probably twice that in hens. When there are so many birds flying you don't know which one to shoot at, now that is heaven. In fact on the last day I think I shot 2 1/2 boxes of shells myself.

    That does sound like fun!!
We went to one down near Price, and I think we got near 80 birds between 4 of us, in one day.
