hey ross,
first you need to "copy IMAGE location" using right click or other means. [note, not "copy LINK location" as they are different]
then paste it into the window, and set up the [img][/img] environment around it, since it's an image/animated image.
[note make sure there are no spaces between the link and [img] and [/img] or the image won't appear. sometimes it's difficult to tell because the text box for a post is so small compared with the link length]
so for example, i really like this one.
the link to the image is
http://www.emrconsultant.com/forum/s.../whistling.gif
the CODE for HOTLINKING the EMOTICON would be ...
Code:

so each emoticon has a URL associated with it. as i mentioned in the post to ross above,
step1-basically you need to get the URL for the "IMAGE LOCATION."
step2-you can do this by using RIGHT CLICK on the IMAGE and selecting"COPY IMAGE LOCATION" [not LINK LOCATION].
step3-this copys the URL associated with the image,
step4-then paste it in to the window where you want it.
step5-then highlight the entire URL and
step6-click the IMG button as you would if you were doing it with any image.
step7-Make SURE there are no spaces between [img]URL[/img] or the image will not appear
step 5/6 could simply be done by typing [img] before the url and [/img] after the url also
usually the emoticons are on some other site, so you need the image location from that other site, BUT with the hippy i have uploaded it to this site and to this page. it will remain on this page. [if acca adds it then you could ultimately be able to use the javascript so it would just appear]
so currently the link for that hippy is ...
http://uutah.com/forum/files/hippyslo.gif
the code for making it appear as an emoticon would be
Code:
okay if we go a step further. perhaps you want to place it within text.
for example the following code:
Code:so we were at this antiwar rally in berkeley and there was an incredibly diverse crowd from the old-timer hippies to young clean-cut business folk joined under a common interest
so we were at this antiwar rally in berkeley and there was an incredibly diverse crowd from the old-timer hippies to young clean-cut business folk , joined under a common interest
